64/65: Hardwick Heath Pitches 1 & 3, 10:30am, Sun 4 November 2018, Bury & District Sunday FL Premier Logos Division Four & Two- Rougham FC v Bury Wanderers & Lakenheath (Sunday's) v Pakenheath (Sunday's)
Would like to say first off, sorry for only just getting this up now- just found what I did with report a while ago
Bury Wanderers ran out 0-2 winners at
Rougham FC, as striker Kalum Benham sealed the win with a well deserved second
half goal on Pitch 1 in Division Four, whilst Lakenham faced Pakenham on Pitch
3 in Division Two.
For reference, Kick offs were 10:32
on Pitch 1 and 10:35 on Pitch 3. It was Wanderers who had the first chance a
minute in, the ball was hoofed over the defence, as Benham beat the keeper to
the ball with a header- to no avail as the keeper recovered to catch on his
line. A minute in on Pitch 3, Lakenheath had a volley from outside the box
blocked before Wanderers’ No.7 had a shot blocked in the area over on Pitch 1,
after 4 minutes.
A Bury through ball to Benham
one-on-one on 5 minutes left me bewildered, as the striker somehow fired wide
of the right post. Two minutes later, a Bury ball to the left edge of the box
fell to Benham but could only volley over the top near corner. On 4 minutes on
Pitch 3, Lakenheath's No.9 went for goal after being set through on goal,
however shot wide of the right post.
A minute later, Pakenham took the lead
as a long range shot was fired well into the bottom left corner and into an
open target. Back to Pitch 1, Bury's No.10 found his way to the right edge of
the box and went for goal, however his shot was deflected behind for a corner.
The away side then had a free-kick on the right two minutes later. Blues' cross
in saw Benham challenge for it with the keeper- the striker getting a deft
touch on it only for a defender to clear off the line at the far post. After 13
minutes on pitch 1, Rougham’s No. 8 went close from the left edge of the box,
as his shot towards the top far corner was caught by the keeper. Wanderers then
countered upfield, and took the lead as No.7 was through in the box. His shot
though was blocked by the advancing keeper’s hand, the rebound though fell to
No.9 Smith to net into the empty net.
Back on Pitch 3, Lakenheath had a
strike at goal, but shot wide of the far post from the right after 15 minutes.
Over on Pitch 1 after 21 minutes, Rougham’s No.9 was fouled on the edge of the
box, but was fired over the bar a minute later. Pitch 3 then saw Lakenheath
shoot low saved by the keeper, with nobody else there to get the rebound after
19 minutes. On 23 minutes, Bury then sent the ball over the top over to Smith
on the left, he then squared the ball to Benham but had his shot blocked by the
advancing keeper. However, the ball fell to No.16 inside the box but shot over
the top left corner. Three minutes later, Rougham’s No.9 sent a great low ball
around the defenders to No.10 at the back post running in, but he put the ball
over the bar.
Lakenheath then equalised after 25
minutes on Pitch 3, before Rougham had a low effort on the right saved by the
keeper at his near post after 31 minutes on Pitch 1, seconds later though Bury
won a corner on the right. Benham at the far post headed the set-piece at goal,
but saw his effort blocked by a defender. Two minutes later, Rougham’s No.9
then had another chance from 25-yards on the left, but fired the ball over the
far. On 38 minutes, Benham crossed the ball in from the right where Bury’s No.7
at the far post headed straight at the keeper, from close range. A minute
later, Bury put the ball into the right post this time found Benham from two
yards out, the striker’s shot though was pounced on by the keeper in the line.
Five minutes until the break, Bury’s
No.16 strike from 22-yards out went over the top left corner, before Rougham
shot low from the right on 43 minutes. However, the strike went just wide off
the far post. Bury though fired well over the bar on 45 minutes, before Bury
shot off target in the box with two minutes of stoppage time played.
HT: Rougham FC 0-1 Bury Wanderers,
HT: Lakenheath (Sunday’s) 1-1
Pakenham (Sunday’s).
The second halves kicked off at 11:25
on Pitch 1, whilst the action on Pitch resumed on 11:28. Two minutes into the
second half, Rougham’s No.15 had a 30-yard strike towards the top far corner,
but was palmed over well by Clifford. On 48 minutes, Bury fed the ball through
to Benham down the middle, the striker then made his way to the left hand side
in the area, before then tapping the ball, with the outside of his foot somehow
wide of the bottom far corner. A minute after that, Bury went close again this
time No.7’s shot on the right in the box was saved well by the keeper down at
his near post. Unfortunately though for the Blues, the rebound was blazed over.
Over on Pitch 3, Pakenheath went 2-1
up finding the right corner. Then on 54 minutes, a Bury low ball in on the
right found No.7 in the box whose shot was punched away by the keeper, off his
line. The rebound though was not taken advantage of. Two minutes later, Rougham
won a free-kick from range but struck it straight at Clifford at his right
post. Bury then countered, as the effort on the left side in the box was
smothered by the keeper. Back on Pitch 3, Lakenheath’s shot on the left was
deflected wide of the near post for a corner, as they chased an equaliser on 55
minutes. The ball in was sent towards goal at close range but was deflected
behind for another corner. Rougham then it the bar on 56 minutes, before Benham
was set through on the left after 59 minutes. The striker ran through into the
box but saw his low shot tipped behind by the keeper at his far post, for a
corner. On the hour mark, Bury then fired over the ar from 25-yards, followed
by Bury’s No.5 having a 25-yyard half volley blocked a minute later. The Blues’
No.7 was then set through on the right side in the box on 63 minutes, with his
great low strike at the far post just wide of the target. Bury kept pushing for
a second goal after 64 minutes, as a cutback on the right byline in the box
found No.16 at the near post. His low shot though was caught by the keeper,
with Bury somehow just a goal ahead. With 25 minutes remaining, Bury No.2’s low
cross in on the left was shot at goal from close range but clipped the bar and
went out of play for a goalkick. In the Division 2 game, Pakenham then crossed
the ball in on the left, but had their effort in the centre palmed over by the
keeper on 66 minutes. On 71 minutes, Bury’s No.16 turned to shoot on the right edge
of the box but shot straight at the keeper at the near post. Lakenheath then
fired a free-kick wide of the right post after 68 minutes on Pitch 3, with
Pakenham having an effort on the right edge of the box headed away seconds
later. The visitors then forced the keeper to save low to his left on 70
minutes, before Bury went close on 77 minutes in the Division Four clash. Blues’
ball through to No.16 one-on-one with the keeper, but shot wide of the left,
near, post. Kalum Benham then fed No.7 on the right side in the box whose shot
at the near post was smothered by the keeper. The Bury No.7 was soon after
fouled in the box, giving Benham a chance to double his side’s advantage, and
finally get his goal.
The striker obliged, dispatching his
well took spotkick into the left, waist high, corner sending the keeper the wrong
way to make the points safe with 11 minutes left to play. Rougham though still
kept trying to pull a goal back, with the hosts’ shot on the left saved by the
advancing Clifford on 86 minutes. As time ticked by Bury had a shot blocked on
the right edge of the box on 87 minutes, before having a shot saved a minute
later. Bury’s no.9 then went for goal low from the left edge of the box but
fired wide of the near post on 89 minutes. That finished the action on Pitch 1,
with one more chance to come on Pitch 3. Pakenham’s ball into the box was put
over the bar from in the box, on 86 minutes as it finished 0-2 to Wanderers and
1-2 Lakenheath.
