Sunday 25 October 2020, 2pm, Suffolk Girls & Womens Football League - Women's Premier Divsion, Culford Sports Centre, Bury Town Women v Stowupland Falcons U18 Girls.

Bury Town Women continued their unbeaten run with a 2-1 tight win over a young Stowupland Falcons side.

The win takes Bury top of the table by a point, with the home side being the one of two teams to still be unbeaten in the division along with Brettvale (1 game).

Chances however were overall at a premium for both sides throughout, as Stow arguably just about edged the opening forty-five minutes, whilst Bury did likewise in the second half.

In the first half, it was Stow who had the first major opportunity as the visitors hit the crossbar from outside the box on 17 minutes.

Bury however had a great chance of their own sixty seconds later, captain Norma Locker weaved through in midfield before finding space to dip a great strike towards the top right-hand corner, which Falcons keeper Maisie Johnson was equal to, to make the save.

Falcons however broke the deadlock on 26 minutes, having released a player free down the right-wing the visitors' crossed a dangerous low delivery into the box finding Amelia Skeggs who bundled the ball home into the bottom right-hand corner from close range.

But the lead only lasted for seven minutes as Bury drew level as Rachel Gwilliam headed home emphatically from close range from Olivia Hodge's corner.

Ten minutes before the break however, Falcons had a great opportunity to retake the lead as a through-ball released the visitors through into the box who rounded Tori Sharpe in the Bury goal before shooting towards the open goal from a tight angle as Clare Ellis got back brilliantly to slide across and divert the ball behind for a corner.

Into the second half, it was Bury who had the first chance of the half on 52 minutes, Rachel Gwilliam's 30-yard strike was creeping into the bottom right-hand corner but for a good save by Falcons goalkeeper Maisie Johnson.

Bury though scored what proved to be the matchwinner just before the hour mark, as Norma Locker got through inside the box before hitting a great low strike underneath Johnson and into the net.

A great save from keeper Johnson then prevented Bury from extending their lead in the 64th minute. Lyndsie Duemmel was fed through on the left-hand side inside the box before cutting inside to fire a great strike towards the top corner, which was creeping underneath the crossbar until the visiting shot-stopper got across well to tip it over for a corner.

At the other end meanwhile, Tori Sharpe was required to narrow the angle down well and make a great save, as the keeper smothered the shot well following a one-on-one inside the box, whilst both sides went an inch away from scoring deep in stoppage time.

Duemmel fired Bury's last shot just wide of the bottom left-hand corner, after Stow did likewise in the 96th minute.

The result leaves Falcons in fifth (6 points from 5 games), having played a game more than most of the teams in the league whilst Bury go top by a point (10 points from 4 games). Bury travel to Brettvale on November 8th, whilst Falcons host Brantham Athletic.

Hardwick v Moreton Hall Ferals 25.10.2020

Moreton Hall Ferals maintained their unbeaten run in the Bury & District Sunday League Division One with a tight 3-2 away win at Hardwick.

The encounter was the second between the two sides at Whelnetham in as many weeks, with the previous meeting ending up much more one sided, as Ferals rampaged to a six-nil win in the League Cup.

After that game, Ferals signed Hardwick winger Brandon Salisbury, who made his Ferals debut against his former team and drew a good save out off the hosts' shot-stopper inside 20 seconds, who palmed the shot over the crossbar from outside the box - albeit ruled offside anyway.

However, an offside flag at the other end prevented Hardwick from breaking the deadlock in the second minute. Releasing a man through on goal inside the box, who finished well into the bottom right-hand corner but was offside.

Meanwhile, Ferals went agonisingly close to opening the scoring themselves two minutes later, after Brandon Salisbury crashed a low strike from outside the post back into play off the woodwork from just outside the penalty area, the ball fll to Bradley Peasgood who's swerving ferocious strike drew good reaction save out off Beaumont, who got to down well to his bottom left-hand corner to beat it away.

Hardwick on the other end delivered a low dangerous ball across the face of goal in the tenth minute, but Ferals goalkeeper Aston Fallows was able to watch it go an inch wide of the bottom far corner.

However, Ferals broke the deadlock six minutes later, Jack Brame's dangerous free-kick into the box from the left wing found its way into the top right-hand corner.

Straight from kick-off meanwhile, Hardwick looked to catch Aston Fallows out off his line, but the shot-stopper responded brilliantly to tip the lobbed long range strike onto the crossbar before catching the rebound.

Ferals meanwhile went close to doubling their lead in the eighteenth minute, keeper Beaumont denying a deflected strike reacting well to take a great diving catch down to his right-hand side.

Ferals' Callum Dove then drew another good save out of the Hardwick goalkeeper on 21 minutes, before Callum Dongray doubled the visitor's lead a minute later.

Callum Dongray was on hand to tap home the rebound from close range after Brandon Salisbury's corner had crashed back into play off the post.

Ferals then hit the woodwork once more on 28 minutes, Aston Fallows' pinpoint drop-kick down field found Jack Brame on the edge of the box who cleverly teed up Callum Dove with a first time pass, who in turn hit a fierce strike instinctively towards goal, which beat the goalkeeper but rattled back into play off the crossbar.

The visitors meanwhile had another great chance to add to their advantage ten minutes before the interval, George Crowe's dangerous left-wing cross narrowly evading both Brandon Salisbury and Jack Brame lurking close to goal, as the ball went just wide of the top far corner.

The home side however reduced the deficit a minute later, the hosts set Robbie Priddle through free inside the penalty area who then curled an audacious strike home into the top right-hand corner to half the deficit to 1-2.

In response, Ferals then forced Beaumont into a great save on 39 minutes, George Crowe's cross into the danger area fell kindly for Brandon Salisbury lurking close to goal, the winger made space to shoot but was denied by a brilliant reaction save from the goalkeeper, diving across well to parry the ball over for a corner. 

The visitors then looked to break through into a dangerous position just outside the penalty area as Salisbury weaved through before slotting Callum Dove throw, although the latter got taken out by a bad sliding challenge for a dangerous free-kick just before the interval. 

Jack Brame's set-piece however curled narrowly over the top right-hand corner for a goal-kick, whilst seconds later Dove was released through by a dangerous long ball down field, but could only guide the ball just wide of the target as the half drew to a close.

Into the second half, Ferals had numerous opportunities to restore their two goal lead inside the first fifteen minutes following the restart.

After Jack Brame's dangerous 20-yard free-kick was deflected just wide for a corner, Brandon Salisbury's resulting corner was headed back into the danger zone by Brame at the back post finding Callum Dove who couldn't quite get enough on his header, as the ball went agonisingly just over the crossbar on 50 minutes.

The visitors were awarded a penalty though two minutes later after Jack Brame had kept the ball well before progressing through inside the box but was brought down by a defender. The striker however, was unable to convert the spot-kick as Beaumont made a great save down to his right-hand side to beat the ball away.

Meanwhile, another golden opportunity went begging for Ferals on 56 minutes as George Crowe could only head just over the crossbar from 6-yards out from Brandon Salisbury's pinpoint corner. 

Ferals though went mere centrimetres from restoring their two goal lead on the hour mark, some great team play from Ferals saw Dongray head the ball onto Crowe, who in turn found Salisbury before receiving the ball back on the overlap down the left-wing and then delivering an audacious ball across the six-yard box towards Cameron Nicholls running in but the ball was just too far ahead of the striker, who would've otherwise have had a tap in.

Both sides however went marginally close to scoring within moments of each other in the sixty-second minute. After Callum Dove was denied numerous times by the goalkeeper and defence in quick succession from a frantic close range scramble, Hardwick broke on the counter before missing guilt-edged chance of their own, instead shooting just wide from close range.

Salisbury then had a great opportunity to regain Ferals' 2 goal advantage on 64 minutes, although his 25-yard strike never really threatened Beaumont as it curled narrowly wide of the top right-hand corner.

The former Hardwick man however set up Ferals' third goal two minutes later, as the visitors' pressure paid off. After Salisbury ran through down the left-hand side, he then cut inside to the edge of the box where Callum Dove took over to sweep home an instinctive first time finish into the bottom right-hand corner to make it 3-1 to Ferals.

Ferals however could've been further ahead on 72 minutes as Callum Dongray rose well to head George Crowe's header towards goal from 10-yards out, but could only guide it just over the crossbar.

A vital save from Ferals keeper Aston Fallows though preserved Ferals' two goal lead seven minutes later, after the visitors set a man through inside the box Fallows made himself big to narrow down the angle and smother the shot behind for a corner.

Priddle however, once again reduced Ferals' lead from two to just one with nine minutes remaining, simply heading home his own and his team's second of the morning from point blank range, at the back post following a corner.

The goal then set up a grandstand finish as Hardwick searched for an equaliser late on, but were thwarted by Aston Fallows on both occasions. 

The first came after a throw-in was headed onto a man free dangerously inside the box, but the low shot was straight at Fallows who got across to make the save on 89 minutes. Hardwick then arguably wasted the final chance of the game, after a lapse in the Ferals defence allowed a through-ball to find a man free past the backline 30-yards from goal, though the Hardwick man rushed his shot straight into Fallows' midrift.

In the end an improved Hardwick performance wasn't enough to pick up a point against a Ferals side who still created plenty of chances but were not as clinical as the previous meeting between the sides, which was arguably reflected fairly in the result.

Ferals travel to Rattlesden in the Open Cup next week.

REACTION | Tom Rothery Post Match Interview | Alvechurch v Needham Market 24.10.2020

Following Needham Market's 2-1 away win at Alvechurch, I spoke to Assistant Manager Tom Rothery. 

On the game: I thought we played well. Tough conditions actually, because the pitch is on a little bit of a slope, a little bit of a hill on it. First half, I thought we were excellent. Second half, first 5, 10, 15 (minutes) I thought we weren't as good and I thought they had a really good spell again and I thought the last 15 we came back really strongly but overall I was really pleased.

On the equaliser: To be fair I thought we started really well and then they got the goal after eight minutes. It was a bit sloppy from us, the first clearance should've been better and the lad's obviously finished well into the bottom corner and it went in. It was a great reaction from us and a lucky goal, shall we say! I don't think Milzy's (Adam Mills) is intending it. I think he's crossing it into the back post but you know we'll take it. It's on target, whether it was lucky or not I don't really care to be honest!

Ingram coming off the bench to score the winner: It's nice for Luke, he's had a tough start to the season so far, he's probably not played as much as he actually wanted to. Kev's very clear, as all of us are, it's a squad game, you don't win anything with eleven players and Luke's done well to come on and helped us turn the game. As I thought at the time we weren't really playing as well as we had been in the first half along with Pagey. With Pagey I thought he came on and did really well as well, I'm really pleased with Luke, like I said he's had it tough. It's been hard for him not being in the team, obviously he got sent off Tuesday, it's nice for Luke, a nice ending (for the week) for him.

On the team performance: I thought we were excellent, I thought we moved the ball really well in the first half, we got it out to Jake (Dye) and Milzy, I thought we linked in, in midfield really well. I thought Byron (Lawrence), Heathy (Gareth Heath) and Noah (Collard) worked really well, rotated really well and overall I just thought it was a really good performance! I don't think it's an easy place to come. It's a tough place to come, conditions were really hard and I know I've dried off now because I've changed my clothes but even I was drenched and I was just stood at the side watching! So yeah, it was really, really heavy rain and the pitch was really heavy from that and in parts slippery at times. Conditions weren't great but having said that, I did think it suited us that we could get the ball down and it allowed us to move the ball around really well, so overall I thought it was a really solid team performance.

Byron Lawrence being voted as supporter's MOTM: I think that's a good shout, I'm happy with that to be fair, collectively I thought it was a really good team performance but I did think Byron was very good today. I thought his ball speed and his passing range was excellent so I did think he had a really good game, but I thought there was a lot of very good performances in that today!

On possibly scoring more: Possibly, I think when I say it could've been more, I think he's (their goalkeeper) made about 3-4 where he's still spilled it out and we've not quite got in, whether that's a little bit of slow reactions from us or it was good defending from them. So, yeah maybe, overall we could've nicked another one maybe but yeah I think 2-1 is a fair scoreline. 

On a very good week for the club: It's been excellent, like Kev's said in his press interviews on Tuesday, it's a reward for everyone at the club, it's always nice to win silverware and today backs up last Saturday against Bromsgrove, getting the cup win on Tuesday and then keeps us unbeaten in the league. Coalville won today so we stay second but its been a really good start and hopefully off the back of that we keep the momentum and the lads keep building in confidence. 

Next week's FA Trophy clash with Three Bridges: We've actually got a midweek free, which is nice. I think the lads need that, we've had a lot of Tuesday-Saturdays and then going into November we've got a lot of Tuesday-Saturdays as well, so it will be nice for the lads to have a week where we can recuperate, get all the little niggles out of the way, have a good training session and focus for Saturday. It's another important game, a different competition but the Trophy's important to the club, bring in some money. We'll rest as much as we can. 

On possibly being favourites for the cup tie: Yeah, but we've still got to go out there and play well and do we what we need to do on the day, which I'm sure we will. It won't be easy, they won't be easy to turn over. We'll make sure we're prepared and I expect the lads to be ready.

Alvechurch v Needham Market 24.10.2020

Post Match Interview with Tom Rothery. 

Needham Market continue their impressive league start to the season with a 2-1 at Alvechurch as they remain second in the table. 

In truth it was a fairly even game, both sides creating good opportunities. Needham had the first of which, drawing a good low diving save by the keeper down to his left-hand side in the first minute. 

However, Alvechurch took the lead after 7 minutes, Adam Mills' header fell to Aaron Lloyd free on the edge of the box who drove home a half-volley into the bottom left-hand corner. 

Needham however looked to respond quickly and nearly did so in the tenth minute when Billy Hunt intercepted possession close to the visitors' penalty area but hit his 20-yard strike straight at the goalkeeper. 

The Marketmen meanwhile did draw level two minutes later, after being found free on the left wing by Ben Fowkes, Adam Mills curled a great cross-turned-shot into the box which took the keeper by surprise before nestling into the bottom far corner. 

Goalscorer Mills then looked to grab a quickfire second goal on 16 minutes, this time looping a great dipping strike over the defence from outside the box, but tje keeper dived across well to parry it away. 

Five minutes later, Needham almost caught out the hoke defence with some great play. The first of many times that Ben Fowkes was fed through down the left-wing and eventually onto the byline, who on this occasion beat his defender to reach the line, but his cutback was smacked behind for a Needham corner. 

Similarly, Needham won a corner again after some superb passing play on 29 minutes. Joe Marsden cut inside well from the right-wing to the edge of the penalty area, but instead of shooting towards goal the forward slotted Noah Collard through inside the box. The midfielder in turn fed Fowkes on the overlap but his dangerous ball squared across was cleared behind well by a defender for a corner. 

Just before half-time meanwhile Needham went close to taking the lead on 42 minutes. Some great team play saw Marcus Garnham distribute the ball out to Adam Mills running down the left wing, who upon getting close to the edge of the box curled a dangerous delivery into the boz which Billy Hunt poked up in the air towards the open goal, but was cleared just off the line cleverly by the retreating defender. 

Mills then tried his luck as the match ended first half stoppage time, striking fiercely at goal from 25-yards out on the right-hand side, proving too much for the keeper to handle as a defender smacked the ball behind for a corner as both sides went in level at the interval. 

After the break, the game continued to be fairly end to end with a handful of chances for either side. 

Needham though had the first three chances of the second half, beginning with Byron Lawrence's 25-yard thunderbolt of a free-kick towards the top corner requiring a deflection of the head Willets who turned the ball just wide of the upright for a Needham corner on 48 minutes. 

The second meanwhile came after great passing play from Needham led ro Gareth Heath being fed on the edge of the box who threaded Fowkes through on goal inside the penalty area although a great sliding challenge by the defender prevented a dangerous shot at goal from close range on 50 minutes.

The third of the trio of Needham chances though saw Noah Collard shoot just wide of the bottom corner a minute later. 

Alvechurch however drew a flying save out of Needham shot-stopper Marcus Garnham on 59 minutes, a dangerous corner into the box was headed on towards the top right-hand corner until Garnham flew across to tip the ball wide for a corner. 

The home side then had another great opportunity two minutes later, firing a fierce strike wide of the top left-hand corner, whilst Ben Fowkes drew a good save out of the home goalkeeper down the other end on 63 minutes. 

The forward also smashing a fierce strike towards the bottom left-hand corner from outside the box, but the keeper dived across well to shovel it away. 

Alvechurch however shot narrowly wide of the top corner on 69 minutes, before Needham were awarded a penalty on 81 minutes. 

After Aaron Lloyd was penalised for a hand-ball from an Adam Mills cross, Luke Ingram stepped up to thump home the spot-kick, sending the keeper the wrong way and into the bottom left-hand corner to give Needham a late lead. 

The Needham substitute and match-winner then had another great chance to extend Needham's lead. After racing through down the right-hand side his powerful strike was deflected well by some great defending for a corner on 85 minutes. 

Fellow Needham substitute Callum Page was then found brilliantly by Byron Lawrence before going on a mazy run down field, weaving his way through to the edge of the box - the forward's great strike however was spilt by the keeper who recovered to retrieve the loose ball on 87 minutes. 

The visitors then had the final chance of an entertaining game despite the pouring rain, after Fowkes' attempt to squeeze the ball home from a yard out on the byline, following a great run, was denied by the foot of the goalkeeper, Noah Collard fired a low strike just wide from the edge of the box. 

Three more points for the Marketmen as they wrap up a good week for the club as a whole after winning the County Cup on Tuesday and now switch focus to next Saturday's FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round home tie against Isthmian League South East Division side Three Bridges.

Needham Market U18 v Stowmarket Town U18 22.10.2020

Needham Market Under-18s make it back to back league wins with a comfortable home win over local rivals Stowmarket Town. 

The game is just the young Marketmen second league game of the 2020-21 season and they were on the attack with just a minute on the clock. 

Kai Fletcher was set through by a great ball past the defence with just the goalkeeper to beat, as he ran into the box but his low shot was saved by the keeper who got down well to kick the shot behind at his bottom left-hand corner. 

From the resulting corner, Archie Exworth went close with a back post header from close range which was deflected just wide for another corner on 2 minutes. 

The Reds then hit the post two minutes later. Kai Fletcher released Ben Harris through on the left-hand side in the box who hit a great low strike across goal, rebounding across the goal-line off the inside of the far post and an inch ahead of the opposing upright. 

Seconds later Harris and Fletcher swapped roles as Needham broke the deadlock. Ben Harris set Kai Fletcher through inside the box before thumping a ferocious strike home into the top right corner. 

The home side then went close on 7 minutes, Charlie Warren's great cross in on the right-hand side found Tommy Smith close to goal at the back post whose looping header towards the top corner was saved comfortably by the goalkeeper. 

Archie Exworth then sliced a shot narrowly wide of the bottom corner from the edge of the box in the ninth minute, before Needham doubled their advantage two minutes later. 

Kai Fletcher held the ball up brilliantly on the right-hand side inside the penalty area, before crossing a pinpoint ball into Louie McDonagh-Kudiabor close to goal who guided home a great header into the bottom right-hand corner. 

It was 3-0 to the young Marketmen in the thirteenth minute, Ben Harris' great low cross in from the left-wing found Tommy Smith close to goal at the back post who cut inside his defender cleverly before firing emphatically into the top left-hand corner. 

Kai Fletcher then rattled the crossbar on 15 minutes, thundering a shot from the edge of the box just over off the top of the woodwork as Needham continued to search for more goals. 

Six minutes later, they did just that adding a fourth goal as Kai Fletcher threaded the ball through to Louie McDonagh-Kudiabor on the edge of the box, who returned the favour through to the striker through in the box on the right-hand side. His shot however was well saved by the goalkeeper off his line well to smother. 

The rebound fell to Kai Fletcher who chested the ball down brilliantly before volleying home fiercely from a tight angle into the bottom right corner via the inside of the near post. 

Needham then went close again on 26 minutes, Ben Harris ran through well down the left-wing before delivering a great ball into Louie McDonagh-Kudiabor seven yards from goal who showed good strength to hold off his defender to win the header, although the attempt went just wide of the bottom right-hand corner. 

Harris was then creator of more havoc for the Stowmarket defence three minutes later, after showing great skill to beat his defender having cleverly kept the ball in play, before seeing his cross cleared straight back to him on the left byline. Harris' cutback was then cleared straight back to him whilst his dangerous ball back in was poked behind by the keeper who reacted well to get his foot across and put the ball behind for a corner. 

The aforementioned forward made it five nil to Needham just after the half-hour mark, Harris picking the loose ball up on the left edge of the box before beating his defender with some neat skill and then sneaking an audacious strike past the goalkeeper from an acute angle at his near post, into the top corner.

In quickfire fashion, Needham added four goals in the space of eight minutes starting with Kai Fletcher completing his hat-trick on 34 minutes - adding Needham's sixth goal in the process. 

A corner into the box was helped on by Louie McDonagh-Kudiabor closer to goal, where Kai Fletcher from 2-yards out was alert to win the header under the pressure from a defender, sneaking a powerful header past the goalkeeper and into the top right-hand corner on 34 minutes. 

Almost instantaneously, Kai Fletcher netted his fourth goal of the night and Needham's seventh, thundering a low strike home into the bottom left-hand corner from inside the box. 

Six minutes before the interval, Ben Harris picked up a brace of his own to make it 8-0 to Needham after weaving through brilliantly to the edge of the box and then firing a great strike home into the top left-hand corner. 

Just before half-time, the young reds added a ninth goal as Kai Fletcher netted his fifth goal of the night. The striker read the situation cleverly to get on the end of the loose ball, following Ben Harris' low shot being well saved by the keeper from inside the box, by tapping home from point blank range to seal a ruthless opening half from a Needham perspective. 

At half time, Needham took the opportunity to rest some players ahead of Saturday's upcoming fixtures which gave Stowmarket the opportunity to grab a consolation goal four minutes after the restart in what was a spirited performance by the visitors despite the scoreline. 

The visitors' corner in found the head of Joshua Stevens running across to the near post who then guided his header home into the top left-hand corner. 

The home side meanwhile floated a low strike just wide of the bottom right-hand corner on 54 minutes, prior to a dangerous ball squared across the box narrowly evading a man sliding in, who was just an inch away from tapping the ball home. 

Whilst Kurt Warren fired a fierce shot just wide of the bottom corner from just outside the box, the home side were denied from a great save from the goalkeeper off his line well to smother the shot - although the offside flag was up anyway. 

Needham meanwhile restored their nine goal advantage on 63 minutes, Harry Blackburn through inside the box then rounded the committed keeper before tapping home into the vacant net from close range. 

Substitute Blackburn then turned provider seven minutes later, finding fellow substitute Marcus Kurtis with a low cross into the danger zone who drew a good diving save out off the goalkeeper from close range. 

Then with ten minutes ago, Blackburn was denied by an excellent save from the visiting keeper. His dangerous free-kick was curled brilliantly towards the top right-hand corner, requiring the goalkeeper to tip the shot onto the crossbar and back into play. The hosts then got on the end of the rebound from close range, but couldn't quite guide their shot towards goal - albeit offside anyway. 

Needham then rounded off proceedings with the final notable chance of the game on 81 minutes, Kieron Double doing so with a strike worthy of dealing the contest, thumping a great strike across goal and into the far corner for Needham's eleventh of the night.

Newmarket Town v Haverhill Rovers 20.10.2020

Newmarket Town move up to 11th in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division table after a 1-0 derby win over 17th Haverhill Rovers. 

The win takes the Jockeys just six points away from fourth placed Stanway Rovers, with the Jockeys having three games in hand. By contrast, Rovers are six points behind Newmarket having plaued a game less - proving the division is as tight as ever. 

The result ends Newmarket's back to back run of defeats, whilst also inflicting a seventh straight defeat in all competitions on Rovers albeit still arguably early days in the season. 

The Jockeys almost got off to the perfect start in just the third minute, as Cowley and Whiting conbined down the right-wing to then cross into Ross Paterson free from close range but his header rebounded back into play off the inside of the right-hand post and into Rovers goalkeeper Philips' gloves having initially beaten the keeper. 

Newmarket's bright start continued on 8 minutes as Rovers defender Shaw cleared a Newmarket long ball straight to Newmarket player-manager Shinn, although the Newmarket gaffer shot narrowly wide of the bottom left-hand corner without troubling the keeper much from 30-yards out. 

Rovers' Marc Abbotts then floated a dangerous free-kick across to the far post of the Jockeys' penalty area on 22 minutes, but nobody was able to get on the end of it. 

Whilst at the other end three minutes later, Newmarket arguably should've broken the deadlock after Ross Paterson was released through on the goal from a neat flick past the defence. The striker then held off the defender brilliantly in a battle of strength before getting a shot off at goal, although he rushed his shot, blasting it well over the crossbar from twelve yards out. 

Newmarket were by far the team on top, with Rovers also looking fairly dangerous in attack, the visitors just weren't able to create as many shots on target, as Newmarket went close again on the hour mark. 

This time whipping a dangerous ball into the six-yard box which just went out the head of Ross Paterson, before an audacious cross into the centre from Cowley on the right byline required Rovers defender Shaw to intercept the ball towards Paterson and flick it out of the danger zone. 

Another dangerous Newmarket cross towards Paterson inside the box then narrowly evaded the striker again on 33 minutes. 

Newmarket winger Cowley then delivered another dangerous ball into the box on a plate for a teammate, after jinked cleverly past the onrushing defender, but the ball in was misjudged by the Newmarket player at the back post on 34 minutes. 

Rovers meanwhile brought Newmarket goalkeeper Alex Archer into action on 45 minutes, flying off his line well to punch Tommy Rigby's dangerous cross into the penalty area from deep out on the right-hand side. 

Rovers' Marc Abbotts then picked out Carroll from an dangerous deep free-kick but the latter's close range header at the back post went over the crossbar four minutes into first half stoppage time. 

The huge additional time was seemingly for an injury to Newmarket's Scott Paterson in the first half and either side almost benefited from the large amount of added time. 

First, a dangerous Newmarket right-wing cross towards Ross Paterson was well claimed off the striker's head by keeper Philips six minutes into the eight added minutes, before Rovers' flashed a dangerous corner across the box at the end of the added time but nobody was able to tap home. 

Rovers looked to soak up the hosts pressure well and catch them on the counter attack, notably when Weaver headed a dangerous corner into the box just over the crossbar from close range on 52 minutes. 

But chances continued to flow at the other end as Shinn's dangerous right-wing corner found Seymour who leapt like a salmon but could only head an inch wide of the bottom far corner on 55 minutes. 

The Jockeys then looked to pounce on Rovers failing to clear the ball away from their penalty area two minutes later, as a cutback into the box wss cleared as far as Bennett just outside the box whose fierce strike went over the crossbar. 

Bennett then won back possession well midway through Rovers' half a minute later, as the home side went onto pass the ball around cleverly, eventually giving the ball back to Bennett on the edge of the penalty area to smash a shot towards goal once more, drawing a strong diving save from Philips, who got across well to palm the ball behind for a corner. 

Newmarket continued to pile the pressure on the Rovers' goal in search of the game's opening goal just after the hour mark, as Shinn's latest dangerous set-piece picked out the hesd of Carver from six-yards out, although his attempt was deflected just over the crossbar by the head of a defender. 

From the resulting corner though, Carver then looped another dangerous header towards goal, this time looping over off the top of the crossbar on 62 minutes, whilst Whitehead curled a well hit strike just over the top far corner from just outside the penalty area a minute later. 

Rovers meanwhile forced a strong save from Archer, tipping Abbott's 20-yard free-kick over the crossbar on 65 minutes, whilst Newmarket's Whitehead looked to catch Philips off his goal-line three minutes later but his 40-yard strike ended up just wide of the left-hand upright. 

However, the opener the Jockeys had been craving arrived on 77 minutes. After a ball was threaded through the defence to Ross Paterson, the striker beat his defender to it whilst he ran through onto the left-hand side inside the box. Philips then edged off his line to narrow down the angle, giving Paterson the space to square across on a plate for Maybanks arriving in from close range who tapped home into the middle of the net. 

Ross Paterson then looked to find a teammate through dangerously in the box once again on 84 minutes, but this time saw his ball on stabs just wide by a defender at the expense of a corner, from which Ross Paterson's close range header was vitally headed off the line by Carroll, although Seymour missed a great chance from the rebound - instead hashing a strike off target. 

The Jockeys arguably should have doubled their advantage with four minutes remaining, Ross Paterson pick pocketed O'Hara high upfield before driving into the box on the left-hand side with Cowley up alongside him. Paterson obliged, cutting the ball back for Cowley who could only hit his shot just over the crossbar.

Paterson though tried his luck at goal himself on 87 minutes, again through well inside the penalty area, this time however he cut inside well to shoot but his strike was deflected as the keeper got across well to gather. 

On the stroke of the final whistle however, Newmarket were denied a second goal by the woodwork as Shinn's set-piece found Seymour free from 6-yards out whose header was tipped expertly onto the crossbar by Philips. 

Both teams are on the road on Saturday as Newmarket travel to Swaffham Town, whilst Haverhill Rovers visit Ely City.

DEVELOPMENT SIDE START THEIR HOME CAMPAIGN OFF WITH DEFEAT TO WARE

Goals from Cruise Nydazayo and Harry Brown weren't enough as Ware pick up back to back wins.

Bury Town U23s start their home season with a 2-3 defeat to a strong Ware U23 side at the Denny Bros Stadium. 

Bury however started the brighter in the opening six minutes but could only register one notable opportunity, as they fired a fierce strike just ovet the top left-hand corner in the first minute. 

A lapse in concentration from Bury however lead to Ware getting the opening goal, Bury gavw possession away to the visitors on the half-way line, as Shepherd intercepted the pass before charging upfield to the edge of the box where he then finished well into the bottom left-hand corner, 0-1 Ware on 7 minutes. 

Five minutes later however, Bury went close to drawing level. Charlie Cook fed Cruise Nydazayo out on the right-wing who thumped a great low first time strike across goal, drawing a great save out of the keeper who got down well to push it away, just evading Harry Brown running in who otherwise would have had a certain goal. 

Whilst at the other end, Bury goalkeeper Joe Wilson was then brought into action on 15 minutes, getting down well to deny the visitors low shot having got through dangerously down the right hand-side to then shoot across goal. 

Bury's Tommy Robinson then whipped a dangerous free-kick into the box two minutes later, forcing a Ware defender to slice a clearance backwards and just over his own crossbar for a corner. 

Meanwhile, despite being caught offside, Ware went dangerously close to doubling their lead in the twentieth minute as a free header from a left-wing cross went just over off the top of the crossbar. 

The visitors though, arguably, should've added to their lead five minutes later as another dangerous cross into the box was headed off target by a man free in the centre from close range. 

However, Bury went up the other end and forced a strong save from Ware shot-stopper Daniel Weaver on 26 minutes. Tommy Robinson's dangerous free-kick from just outside the box was curling towards the top left-hand corner until the goalkeeper tipped over the crossbar for a Bury corner. 

Luck arguably wasn't on Bury's side as Cruise Nydazayo delivered an invitingly dangerous ball across the face of goal but nobody was able to get a touch to it on 44 minutes, whilst the forward was denied by another great save by Weaver on the stroke of half-time. Nydazayo kept possession well down the right-hand side to then drive forward towards goal, although his low fierce shot across goal was well saved by the keeper who got down well to shovel it away, just behind Harry Brown who was running in on the follow up. 

As with the first half, Bury started the second half the brighter of the two arguably, but Ware on the other end added to their advantage fairly early into the half. 

Although, that was not before Cruise Nydazayo had tested the keeper with a low and fierce 20-yard freekick which Weaver got down to well to take a great catch just to his left-hand side on 47 minutes.

Weaver's opposite number Joe Wilson, however, was brought into action five minutes later, reacting well to save a powerful strike towards his top left-hand corner. 

Moments later though, Bury substitute Zane Robinson then found Cruise Nydazayo at the back post with a cross into the box whose deflected shot fell to Harry Brown, but he couldn't quite get a good enough connect to turn his shot goalwards. 

Brown then turned provider on fifty-five minutes, as great team play from the hosts led to Brown releasing Daniel Hammett through down the left-wing, who then cut inside into the box and get a shot off at goal despite being held back by the defender. The shot though was deflected an inch wide of the bottom far corner. 

The Blues were soon punished for not taking their chances as Ware hit them with a sucker-punch second goal, Southwell thumping a well hit strike past Wilson and into the top left-hand corner on 56 minutes. 

Ware then went close twice in as many minutes, firstly shooting an inch wide of the bottom far corner from a tight angle, before crashing an 18-yard strike against the crossbar on the hour-mark. 

Cruise Nydazayo gave his side a much needed lift as he halved the deficit in the 61st minute, showing great persistence to get to the ball first and bundle the ball over the line having driven past the defence before holding off his defender to poke the ball at goal. His initial shot however was well saved by Weaver although the rebound fell kindly for Nydazayo to bundle just over the line, via the post, from close range, 1-2 in Ware's favour. 

Nydazayo almost drew Bury level just 3 minutes later. Again the Bury forward drove through down the right-hand side, past the defence but the impressive keeper was off his line brilliantly to deny Nydazayo's attempted chip over the keeper and into the net. 

Ware though virtually sealed the three points by restoring their two goal lead as Crowther's dangerous pinpoint left-wing cross was nodded home by Shepherd from point blank range on 76 minutes. 

Daniel Hammett meanwhile was denied twice in quick succession with ten minutes to go, with the first following a Tommy Robinson short corner as Hammett picked up possession before going for goal, first time, but the deflected gave the keeper an easy catch. Hammett then had a great chance to reduce the deficit once more, as the midfielder had space to shoot from 30-yards but fired comfortably over the crossbar with the goal almost at his mercy. 

Bury moved within one more goal from an equaliser on 84 minutes though as Daniel Hammett released Harry Brown with a great ball past the defence, the striker then went onto do brilliantly well to stay on his feet under the challenge of a defender before firing home cooly low into the middle of the net. 

Whilst at the other end, Bury goalkeeper Joe Wilson prevented Ware from adding further to their lead, as the young goalkeeper got across brilliantly to palm the great low strike behind for a corner, prior to the home defence denying a close range header with a block ahead of the goal-line on 88 minutes. 

Wilson then thwarted Ware again in stoppage time with the final chance of the game, this time getting down well to save a low shot from inside the box with his feet, as Ware took all three points. 

Bury Town Under-23s return to action once again in ten days time (29 October), when they travel to Heybridge Swifts (7:45pm).

Moreton Hall Ferals advance to the Suffolk Sunday Cup quarter-finals following a 4-2 home win over Howards. 

This all Bury Sunday Division One affair is the second between the two sides already this season after the Ferals came out on top in their League Cup meeting 5-4 just a few weeks earlier. 

This encounter followed a similar pattern, although Howards had the opening notable opportunity as Harry Moore's second minute low strike was well saved by Aston Fallows. 

At the other end, Charlie Clover had Ferals first notable chance as his shot from outside the box was beaten away by the goalkeeper in the fourth minute. 

The Ferals winger meanwhile broke the deadlock in the twelfth minute, having cut inside well from the left wing Glover fired home into the bottom right-hand corner. 

That lead was almost doubled just three minutes later, Callum Dove was set through past the defence, drawing the keeper off his line as the Ferals man neatly poked the ball past him towards goal, only to be denied by some great defending from Steve Holder who tracked back to hook the ball off the goal-line. 

Ferals forward Jack Brame however had a great opportunity to add to the score sheet on 19 minutes but could only shot wide from a tight angle, before then curling a dangerous free-kick just over the crossbar from just outside the penalty area four minutes later. 

The chances continued to fall Brame's way, who went close to scoring once more after being picked out by a pinpoint George Crowe deep cross, but his header went an inch wide of the bottom left-hand corner on 24 minutes. 

George Crowe then tested the keeper three minutes later, swinging a dangerous free-kick towards goal but the Howards' shot-stopper made the claim on his goal line. 

Ferals though doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark, with Ben Newdick doing so having found space inside the box to finish well into the bottom corner via the inside of the far post. 

Howards however tested Aston Fallows in response, although the Ferals keeper was equal to a fierce shot that was creeping into the roof of the net on 37 minutes. 

Ferals on the other hand went up the other end and drew a good save out of a keeper, palming Jack Brame's thirty-yard free-kick over the crossbar. The resulting corner meanwhile saw Ferals add a third goal on 39 minutes, Callum Dongray poking home the loose ball after seeing his header cleared off the line from Elliott Frost-Palmer's corner. 

In quickfire fashion, Ferals then added a fourth goal in the forty-first minute, Jack Brame nodding home George Crowe's free-kick into the bottom corner. 

The four goal advantage didn't last long however as Howards were awarded a penalty just before the interval, which was dispatched well by Jack Stone into the bottom right-hand corner, sending Fallows the wrong way in the the process to make it 4-1 in Ferals' favour at the break. 

Into the second half, Ferals looked to restore their four goal advantage soon after the interval. 

Jack Brame had the first decent chance of the half, but could only head straight at the keeper from close range, whilst Dove weaved through into the box to get a shot off at goal but could only fire wide into the side netting on 48 minutes. 

That chance was closely followed by Ben Newdick's strike from outside the box, which looked on target until being blocked by the head of a Howards defender, before Newdick was denied again in the fiftieth minute. Although this time by the keeper, who got down well to smother his close range header from a Crowe cross - albeit offside anyway. 

Jack Brame though went close to extending Ferals lead on 54 minutes, after Callum Dove kept the ball in play brilliantly. The midfielder then cut inside onto the edge of the box where he fed Brame whose shot at goal was deflected forcing a great save from keeper to prevent the ball from creeping into the net at the expense of a corner. 

The chances continued to go flow, as Charlie Glover fired a fierce strike just over the top right corner on 64 minutes, whilst Howards' Jack Stone shot an inch wide of the bottom corner from outside the box moments later. 

The visitors then did similarly four minutes later, a great through-ball released the visitors through inside the box but the result was the exact same, whilst Ferals' Callum Dove continued the pattern of near misses by shooting just over the crossbar soon after. 

Howards though dented Ferals' lead further on 70 minutes, who guided the loose ball into the bottom corner from close range. 

That though was to be Howards final notable chance of the game as Ferals had chances to restore their initial four goal lead, with Jack Brame being involved of two of them. 

Whilst the first saw Brame's 25-yard free-kick deflected just wide for a corner, Brame couldn't get enough on his header to direct Crowe's resulting corner towards goal on 77 minutes, before Charlie Glover had the game's final major chance but could only shot an inch wide of the bottom far corner. 

Ferals therefore advance to the Quarter-Finals of the County Cup ahead of a league visit next week to Hardwick in the Bury Sunday Division One.

Needham Market manager Kevin Horlock reacts to his team's 3-0 win over Bromsgrove Sporting, having watched his side continue their impressive start to the league season as they sit in second place.

On the game: I think it was a complete performance if I'm totally honest! I think the lads from 1-16, the whole squad played their part and everyone performed at a real high level today, which resulted in us beating a very good Bromsgrove team 3-0, which I don't think many teams will do.

They (Bromsgrove) started bright, we knew they were a good team. Obviously having Tom (Rothery) as my assistant, he's a statto, he knows everything, he does his homework. He's an absolute machine in that respect, so we knew what to expect. We gave the lads that information and they did come out of the traps really quick and from kick off they possibly could've scored. After we weathered that, I thought we got a real strong foothold in the game and imposed our game on them. I thought we moved the ball really quick, we rotated, we forward. I just thought it was a complete performance today and one that I was really pleased with.

On Callum Page's two goals and MOTM: That's what Pagey does. The boy scores goals, he's an unbelievable talent of one so young at this level and playing so consistently well. He deserves everything he gets, he works hard, he trains properly, I'm really pleased for Pagey to get two (goals) today because he is a real threat when he gets on the ball, I'm made up for him.

On Heath's missed chances: Maybe (he should've scored. Heathy is unbelievable in getting in those areas, he arrives there so often and in all honesty I thought he would've scored because he's done it so often in the past. Probably should've scored but look it was a fantastic save from their keeper, probably one that no-one expected. It was a big moment actually, because at that moment we were really on top, we were creating chances, we were getting into areas that were really dangerous. That was a great save from their keeper but yeah on another day Heathy scores that I'm sure he does.

On whether Needham dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half: I said to the lads, I really enjoyed the first half and sometimes it's really difficult as a manager to actually enjoy it, because you're involved in it. I just thought it was a really, really good game of football. Both teams played with high energy and tried to play the right way and it was really entertaining. I said to the lads, "you've got to keep that momentum up, you've got to keep it up." I get stick off the lads for it, I just want them to be relentless and I know I've said it so often in interviews, I want the lads to nonstop and I thought they were today from minute one, or minute five when we got going to the final whistle. I just thoughtcwe were incredible.

On Garnham's penalty save just before half-time: It was a big moment, it was a massive moment in the game and again I'll go back to Tom again who did his homework! It was quite funny, he switched off slightly and went a bit quiet and all of a sudden he jumped and said "he goes down the middle!" So he'd obviously done his homework, he knew the lad was going to go down the middle, so at that point it becomes a little bit like the Inbetweeners Dance. Everyone was trying to get the message over to Marco (Marcus Garnham) that the lad was going to go down the middle and I think Tom was doing this (mimics gestures that he was going to go down the middle, 3:34 in the video). It was a bit bizarre but again I've got unbelievable staff working with me and knowledge is the bomb, Tom and Munno have certainly got that!

On Bromsgrove keeper: It could've been 6, 7 or 8(-0), maybe more. He was a good keeper actually and I thought they were a really good team. I know their manager was disappointed at the end with how they performed but I think he was honest enough to come out and give my team credit. We were really good on the day. It sets us up nicely now for Tuesday, hopefully we can go over to Lowestoft and finish the job off and get our first bit of silverware.

On Kai Fletcher making his first team debut: He's still so young, he's got so much potential, he deserves his chance. Look, it come through lads having knocks so I thought I need to add someone in and Kai's been banging the goals in, he's done it ever since he's came to the football club! I knew I could rely on him, I knew he wouldn't be fazed and I was gutted he didn't score. I said to him that he's done everything right, his touch was good, he caught it well. It was a good save from the keeper albeit it might've smashed him in the face, but he's certainly one for the future for Needham!

On Callum Sturgess' red card: I missed the first one so I was unaware that he got the yellow and obviously when he made the foul it was a yellow card, there's no doubt about that so it was probably the right decision. It's disappointing because Callum for next week but it gives an opportunity for someone else to keep the shirt - if they do well, I'll stick to it. So that's where we're at, we've got a squad of players that are chomping on the bit, we've got an eleven that are playing to their potential so it means lads miss out so with Cal missing a game it means someone's getting an opportunity to put the shirt on and if they do well then they're staying, it's as simple as that.

On the aporoach for the second leg at Lowestoft: Same (approach) as I always do, we'll be going there to win the game of football. We're not going to sit back, we're not we're not going to out bodies behind the ball. Yes, we're going to defend properly and track runners and all that stuff that I insist we do but we certainly won't be going there to hold onto the two goal advantage that we've got.

Needham Market skipper Gareth Heath spoke to me following his side's 3-0 home victory over Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday.

On the game: That was alot more like ourselves really, after playing Lowestoft we weren't happy with our performance, even though we won 3-1. The intensity, the pressing and the work rate just wasn't there in possession and out of possession. A lot better today, so we're pleased.

On Bromsgrove: We always knew they were going to be a good team. Obviously from previous seasons, we expected them to come at us, but yeah we weathered a bit of a storm for the first 10 minutes. We clicked into gear and then I thought we controlled the game.

On the goals: Yeah, some very good (finishes), a bad one from me! But it happens sometimes, but yeah very good, very pleasing. Pleased both got on the score sheet, always helps with Bill's confidence for the season. 

On his two chances in the first half: Yeah I did, it just come across goal, flashed across and I just thought possibly it was already over the line but the keeper made a good save and then the defender's put himself on the line and jump in front of the second one. All credit to them two, but I should've really scored, but as I've said that happens. 

On Tuesday's second leg at Lowestoft: That's not over, I know we're taking a 3-1 lead over there but it's going to be a difficult game. They're going to come at us, but we're going to go there and concentrate on ourselves and concentrate on our own performance and at the end of the ninety minutes, the result takes care of itself. 

On Needham's impressive league start: That's always important at home to put a good performance in and win games. If you can win your home games and pick up decent points away you're always in for another chance at the end of the season. It's always promising, but let's not get carried away, there's a long season ahead of us and we've got to keep taking it game by game.

Needham Market's impressive league start to the season continues with a 3-0 win over Bromsgrove Sporting. 

Whilst clear cut chances were at a premium both sides created some good opportunities, with the first seeing Needham MOTM Callum Page's fierce volley from just outside the box blocked. 

Bromsgrove put Needham under pressure in tje first ten minutes and almost made it count had keeper Marcus Garnham not been alert to deny them from first a quick free-kick and header towards goal and then a corner in quick succession. 

At the other end, Callum Page was involved in a lot of the hosts good play, notably forcing the keeper to make a good save at his near post on 14 minutes. 

Bromsgrove however were denied the opener on 20 minutes, after a low shot from a free-kick into the box was well blocked by Keiran Morphew. 

Platt then denied the Marketmen with some good goalkeeping two minutes later, Dye cut the ball back to Gareth Heath free whose dangerous ball in towards the danger area was well claimed by Platt. 

The visiting keeper thwarted the hosts again on 26 minutes, Fowkes weaved through cleverly inside the box, holding off the defender but shot straight at the well placed keeper, before the forward then fired into the side netting from inside the box moments later. 

Similarly, Fowkes was denied by the keeper again on 32 minutes, Platt this time down well to palm his latest strike behind for a corner, from which Page found Keiran Morphew but he couldn't direct it on target. 

Heath, who later admitted that he "should've scored" meanwhile was denied by an excellent reaction save by Platt, whilst his rebound attempt was denied by some great defending on 34 minutes. 

Needham however weren't made to rue that missed opportunity as Callum Page's fierce strike was just too much for Platt to keep out as the ball looped up and into the net after a good save by Platt to give the Marketmen the lead after 37 minutes. 

The goalscorer then fed Fowkes through inside the box but his shot was well blocked as the half drew to a close, although Garnham was forced into a strong save to deny Broadhurst's spot-kick just before the break. 

Into the second half, Needham dominated the first 20 minutes as Byron Lawrence's cut in drew a good low save from Platt early into the half. 

Platt however had an excellent game for the visitors throughout, notably smothering Billy Hunt's close range strike well off his line. 

Needham were relentless at the start of the second half, as the latest chance saw Ben Fowkes hit the post before Keiran Morphew wob a penalty chasing the rebound. 

Like his opposite number though, Platt denied Hunt from the spot with a great diving save. 

But the Marketmen continued to probe for a second goal and got it on 54 minutes, the shot-stopper adding to his fine string of saves by thwarting Ben Fowkes' great strike from a tight angle though Callum Page was on hand to follow up with his second goal of the afternoon. 

Fowkes then went close once more soon after, this time shooting an inch wide of the far post, whilst Hunt headed Sturgess' cross just over the bar, before Platt again got down well to deny another great shot from Fowkes on 61 minutes. 

Quaynor however looked to get Bromsgrove back into the game, bending a dangerous strike towards goal but Garnham reacted well to swat it over the crossbar.

Garnham then followed that up with an even better stop to deny Westwood on 66 minutes, flying across to beat behind his strike towards the top corner. 

In the end, Needham were clinical in front of goal as they added a third goal on 69 minutes, Billy Hunt thumping home Callum Sturgess' ball over the defence past Platt and into the top corner. 

The chances continued to flow for Needham though, whilst Joe Marsden shot just wide, 17-year old debutant Kai Fletcher's great strike was well smothered by the keeper who narrowed the angle well. 

Although the Marketmen held on to keep the clean sheet, the only blemish from a Needham perspective was Callum Sturgess' red card after picking up two bookings with 3 minutes remaining. 

Needham Manager Kevin Horlock reflected on the game as the "complete performance," whilst also feeling "gutted" debutant Kai Fletcher didn't score, adding "I thought he was (going to score."

CLINCAL BURY PROGRESS IN FA YOUTH CUP

A scintillating performance from the young Blues knock out St Margaretsbury as they progress in the FA Youth Cup.

Bury Town Under-18s set up a FA Youth Cup 3rd Qualifying Round tie at Kings Lynn Town after a ruthless performance over a battling St Margaretsbury side. 

It didn't take the Blues long to break the deadlock either, as they went in front just 30 seconds in, Jack Heider's low cross in found Clinton Frank running in at the far post whose first time shot was well saved by the keeper at his near post, although the rebound was poked home into the gaping net by Amin Mohammad. 

It was nearly 2-0 inside the first minute as a dangerous low cross into the box was misjudged by the keeper and instead found Finlay Binas lurking from close range whose backheel towards the gaping net went just over the crossbar. 

Bury however doubled their advantage on 4 minutes, Clinton Frank raced through dangerously down the left-hand side onto the byline, the forward then squared the ball across leading to the defender putting into his own net from point blank range. 

Instantly though, Bury added a third goal, Amin Mohammad was free inside the box on the left-hand side to cut back possession to Callum Steed unmarked from 16-yards out to expertly finish first time into the bottom near corner. 

Steed then turned provider in the tenth minute, the midfielder's low cross into the box fell to Ollie Santry seven yards from goal, but his shot went straight into the keeper's chest. 

Bury were relentless throughout and were awarded a penalty in the eleventh minute as Clinton Frank was set through the box but was fouled by onrushing keeper. 

Up stepped Amin Mohammad who netted his second and Bury's fourth of the night, cooly dispatching home into the bottom right-hand corner, 4-0 Bury after 12 minutes. 

Callum Steed then hit a dangerous 50-yard free-kick just over the crossbar on 20 minutes, whilst Ollie Santry poked an inch wide of the bottom corner from close range following a long throw three minutes later as Bury looked for more goals. 

They did just that in the twenty-sixth minute as Clinton Frank was fouled in the box after nudging the ball past the defender and going down under a challenge. 

Once again Amin Mohammad took the spot-kick, this time though the striker thumped the ball home into the bottom left-hand corner to seal his hat-trick. 

Fin Bonas meanwhile was set through dangerously onto the right byline, close to the near post, but his low ball across was thwarted well by the keeper, down smartly at his near post to put the ball behind for a corner with a man running in on 27 minutes. 

Good goalkeeping then denied Callum Steed what would've been his second goal of the game two minutes later, after Mohammad released the midfielder through with just the keeper to best inside the box, Steed rounded the shot-stopper and tried to squeeze his shot into the goal but the keeper reacted well to get down and save with the defence on hand to clear the loose ball. 

Despite that, Bury extended their advantage further on 33 minutes, Callum Steed threaded Clinton Frank through the defence and into the penalty area where the latter sidefooted home underneath the keeper and into the net. 

The visitors however had two good chances in the space of 2 minutes, the first saw a free-kick find a man free at the back post who poked his shot wide of the top corner whilst Joe Wilson was forced to get down well to deny a low shot from outside the box on 38 minutes. 

Up the other end, Ollie Santry fired a strike an inch wide of the bottom right-hand corner on 40 minutes, before Max Dinnell got in on the act on the stroke of half-time. 

Callum Steed's free-kick was poked towards goal from close range, forcing a good save from the keeper although the ball fell kindly to Dinnell who poked home from point blank range to give Bury a healthy advantage at the break. 

Early into the second half, there was no let ups from Bury, who added an eighth goal on 48 minutes, Amin Mohammad's low shot from outside the box was palmed away by the keeper as far as Clinton Frank following up who tapped home into the open net from a fairly tight angle. 

Findlay Hay then guided a Bury free-kick into the box towards goal, but was denied by the keeper who parried the ball away on 56 minutes. 

The substitute's corner four minutes later however found Tom Gee twelve yards from goal, who added to the scoresheet by nodding home into the bottom corner. 

After Mohammad's dangerous cutback was cleared by the defence on 65 minutes, St Margaretsbury growed into the game and nearly got on the score sheet when a dangeroud left-wing free-kick curled just over the crossbar on 84 minutes. 

Bury meanwhile rounded off the rout seconds later as Clinton Frank was released down the right-wing, beating his defender in the process to reach the byline. The forward then cut back possession to Jack Jolland seven yards out who did the rest, guiding the ball home into the bottom corner to wrap up the victory. 

Just before the end however, the visitors stung the hands of Joe Wilson with a long range strike. 

Bury set up a repeat of last season's FA Youth Cup tie, when Bury lost 4-2 at King's Lynn.

Following the Marketmen's 3-1 delayed 2019-20 County Cup final first leg win over Lowestoft Town, I spoke to Needham Market manager Kevin Horlock.

On the game:

I'm happy with the three one win, obviously to go to Lowestoft with a two goal margin is pleasing. I don't think were at our best tonight, but that's gonna happen I've got a group of players that are willing to listen and work hard. We didn't quite hit the heights that we have in previous games this season, but that's going to happen and the positive thing. is that we've not been at our best and we've won 3-1 so that is a massive positive but I still go away with a little bit of disappointment that if we were a little bit better that we could've maybe put the game to bed. 

On scoring early: We've done that quite often

this season we've scored early on in

games and settled us down so that was important. I did say to the lads that if you think this is going to be an easy game then you're mistaken. Lowestoft are a good team, it's a obviously a cup final let's not get away from it. 

It's a premier cup final which which is massive for all clubs and we're no different so I knew Lowestoft were gonna come here and have a go which I think they did. They played well at times so to win 3-1 is pleasing but being the manager I'll always want more. We possibly could've scored more, possibly a penalty shout, but then in saying that they had a chance when they hit the bar. So I'll walk away and take the 3-1 (win), I don't want to sound too negative because obviously we've just won the first leg of a cup final 3-1 so that's a real bonus the way I see it. I always strive to get the players to do well and get them to drive each other on to be relentless and to be successful. 

Yeah two-nil we looked fairly comfortable but a little bit of possession. The way I see it I'm a bit disappointed that there's areas where we could improve and it's all given them a leg up and a little bit of hope. So it was nice to get the third goal and give us that two goal cushion but as I said downstairs and in my last interview we won't go there to shut up shop. We're a dangerous team, we score goals so if we can score next Tuesday we'll see what happens. 

Yeah it gives us a good advantage and if you would've offered me that before the game I would've slapped your hand off, I would've taken it! 2-0 put a different spin on it obviously, they'll probably think it and I'll say the same - they're still in the tie. It's up to us to score goals in the second leg, two goals isn't that much of a lead so we've got to nullify that threat that they've got because I know we will score, we have done all season. We're a real threat. 

Yeah it was always going to be a tough

game, I know Godders (Lowestoft manager) quite well so I knew he was going to have them set up to come here and try and win the game so so it's important you get the early goal and then to get the third it's pleasing. It's a good advantage to go there and finish the job off. 

Joe's (Marsden) had to be to be patient and then the environment I've tried to set is if the team's doing well then you keep the shirt. I think Joe and Luke affected the game Saturday, obviously Ingers scoring, so I thought I made the right call in giving them a chance. at 

times it looked like they hadn't played for a few weeks but it's good for them to get the minutes, it's a great finish from Joe, I know he's got that bit of quality. 

On Billy Hunt scoring: Number nine's always want goals, Billy's no different, he works really hard. He's a bit behind in terms of missing out in pre-season, self-isolation and

so on so what so he's catching up still

but we've seen good bits from build up play

which was fantastic and there's something we know Bill's got in the locker. 

Yeah we've been really strong obviously we've not lost in the league just yet so we're looking to add to that. We've been a real threat going forward, playing really well so we're under no illusions that the Bromsgrove will be a real stern test. They're a, really good team and we'll have to be at our best. Hopefully we can have a look and see how they (the players) are on Thursday and set to win the game on Saturday because

that's the most important thing. No eyes will be on the second leg just yet, that's not important at this moment in time. It's about getting ready and getting the lads ready to go for Saturday. 

On how we'll approach next Tuesday: No i don't think I believe in that. we're winning 3-1, we'll go out as we do any other game will be on the front foot, we'll be a little bit more aggressive than we were tonight. We're going to go there to win the game. We won't be sitting back, that's a dangerous game especially when against a Lowestoft team at home with a xrowd behind that will be all over so there'd be some difficult moments no doubt in the game but we certainly might be sitting back holding onto what we've got. 

REACTION | Joe Marsden Post Match Interview | Needham Market v Lowestoft Town 13.10.2020

After Needham Market's 3-1 delayed 2019-20 County Cup final first leg win over Lowestoft, I spoke to forward Joe Marsden. 

On the game: It was a 3-1 win so we'll take that into the next leg, but probably wasn't our best performance. Kev told us at halftime that our intensity wasn't quite right and we weren't as good as we have been in previous games which is probably fair, but I mean take three one in the first leg as bonus. As long as we go there and do the same thing then we'll be happy and have a trophy. 

On the plan going into the game: Well two legs you want to get it done in the first leg but

that's not always possible. Lowestoft are a good team they make it hard for everyone. It was not going to be a stroll, but yeah we needed to win the game, simple at that go to Lowestoft 

how many goals would win by as a bonus with a two goal advantage. Hopefully I could start next week and hopefully we can win the game again. 

On his goal: Yeah well it's been a while and I haven't played probably as much as I would've liked with the injury and other things so it's nice

to score early on, I mean I could've got another one but I'll take one, so to score and get an assist on Saturday is a good start for me but i'm just getting back hopefully fitness improves every game and see how many goals I can get. 

Well Tibs (Luis Tibbles, Lowestoft goalkeeper) will hate the sight of me, but that's the second time in two games (against Tibbles) that I've put one top corner, so I'll remind him of that when I see him after. I was playing on the left and I just cut in and try and hit that into the far corner, as close as I could to the top corner as possible. I hit there last year and hopefully I'll get the chance to do at Lowestoft next week, but I couldn't have wished for a better start for me to be honest. Not much to say other than you could say it (his goal) was lucky, but it wasn't lucky as I did it last year. I'm happy, any goal's a good goal, but when a goal is like that, you're going to be happy! 

On Saturday's home game v Bromsgrove:

Yeah we've started really well in the league, winning all our home games and obviously not losing away yet so we have started really well

and Saturday's going to be another tough test, Bromsgrove are a good team and if we can carry on how we're doing. Working hard with intensity and scoring the goals we are, we've got every chance of winning the game, that's the important thing.

Needham Market take a 3-1 advantage into next week's delayed 2019-20 Suffolk Premier Cup Final second leg after a clinical performance in front of goal. 

Manager Kevin Horlock made four changes to Saturday's 1-1 draw at Banbury United as Byron Lawrence (cup tied) was replaced by Luke Ingram; whilst Adam Mills, Joe Marsden and Keiran Morphew swapped places in the squad with Callum Sturgess, Ben Fowkes and Joshua Pollard. 

Lowestoft however came out with a point to prove after losing at Bloomfields within two weeks ago in the league, by the same scoreline, and did go close just 2 minutes in as MacIntosh found Tann who headed on towards goal but was denied by Ingram who hooked the ball off the goal-line. 

The Marketmen on the other hand made their first notable opportunity count as Joe Marsden broke the deadlock nine minutes in with a spectacular finish, curling home into the top far corner, 1-0 Needham after 9 minutes. 

Clever play from Callum Page almost provided a quick second goal for both Joe Marsden and Needham, the attacker clipping in a dangerous cross into the six-yard box but was just over the head of Marsden. 

Lowestoft meanwhile created another dangerous opportunity on 14 minutes, but again lacked the finish as Fisk blazed over the bar in space from outside the box. 

Up the other end, Joe Marsden sent a free-kick from a dangerous position over the crossbar on 29 minutes, whilst Colin Oppong up the other end got through dangerously onto the right byline but could only put his cross wide if the near post for a goal-kick on 41 minutes. 

Needham though went close again to adding a second goal a minute later, as Lowestoft defender Andoh, on-loan from Ipswich Town, sliced Jake Dye's dangerous cross back towards his own goal but over onto the roof of the net. 

The defender was almost punished for the mistake from the following corner when Callum Page cutback an inviting ball across the face of goal to the penalty spot but nobody was around to get a touch onto it. 

Needham captain Gareth Heath added a second goal for Needham on the stroke of half-time, side footing home Callum Page's low dangerous cutback from 10-yards out. 

Into the second half, Needham almost hit Lowestoft on the break when Callum Page threaded a clever ball round the defender to Billy Hunt, the latter spotted Tibbles off his line but got too much height on his lobbed effort as it went narrowly over the crossbar. 

Lowestoft on the other hand, looked to have grabbed a foothold back into the cup tie as they halved the deficit on 62 minutes, as Tann poked home low into the bottom corner from MacIntosh's cross. 

MacIntosh then caused the Needham defence from another dangerous set-piece three minutes later, Andoh's header on found Tann close to goal who could only head his attempt at goal onto the crossbar and back into play. 

That chance soon turned vital in the game as Needham added a third goal on 68 minutes, Noah Collard fed Billy Hunt who finished expertly by curling his strike from outside the box over the defenders and Tibbles and into the top corner, 3-1 Needham. 

Billy Hunt then went in search of his second and Needham's fourth goal three minutes later, thumping a strike at goal from outside the box into Tibbles' chest after being fed in space by Adam Mills. 

The visitors meanwhile looked to hit back by hitting a dangerous well hit strike just wide of the top corner on 74 minutes, whilst Marcus Garnham gave the ball straight to Lowestoft who looked to feed a man free in the box but Daniel Morphew was there to prevent a tap in, intercepting the ball and clearing the danger on 81 minutes. 

Needham substitute Ben Fowkes though had the final chance of the evening, cutting inside well to try his luck at goal, forcing Tibbles into a good save, launching across to gather the low shot. 

The Marketmen however switch focus to maintaining their impressive league start to the season as they host Bromsgrove Sporting at Bloomfields on Saturday (3pm).

Hardwick v Moreton Hall Ferals 11.10.2020

Sunday 11 October 2020, 10:30am, Great Whenetham Community Centre, Premier Logos Bury & Sunday District League Snap On Tools BSE Open Knockout Cup Round 2, Hardwick v Moreton Hall Ferals. 

Moreton Hall Ferals progress to the third round of the Open Knockout Cup with a 6-0 victory away to Hardwick. 

The Ferals wasted little time in breaking the deadlock as Callum Dongray looped a header over the defence to release Jack Brame running through on goal to instinctively poke into the net, past the keeper from inside the penalty area. 

Hardwick had a great chance in response five minutes later, a dangerous corner was headed towards goal at the back post, but the close range attempt was low and straight at Aston Fallows at his near post. 

Ferals' Jack Brame then went close to doubling both his and his team's goal tally for the morning on 15 minutes only to shoot an inch wide of the bottom corner from just outside the box. 

Despite the resulting scoreline, Hardwick did have some great chances to get on the scoresheet and went close to doing so on 21 minutes when Craig Defew vitally hooked away a dangerous loose ball as a low shot had to be smothered well by Aston Fallows. 

That save proved important as Ferals doubled their advantage a minute later, Jake Peasgood's low shot was saved by the home keeper only as far as Callum Dove lurking, who guided the ball home from close range. 

Charlie Glover meanwhile was prevented from adding a third goal for Ferals in the 27th minute, by a good save by the keeper diving down to smother at his near post. Whilst Jake Peasgood drifted a dangerous free-kick an inch wide of the bottom far corner nine minutes later. 

At the other end, Hardwick had a great opportunity of their own to half the deficit, though the shot from a dangerous position was deflected an inch wide of the bottom corner for a Hardwick corner. 

Ferals on the other hand went close again four minutes before the break, Jack Brame's shot from point blank range was denied by a superb reaction save although the rebound looped towards the far corner, requiring a defender to head it off the goal-line. The ball then fell to Sam Waterson whose shot was deflected just wide for a corner. 

Into the second half, the visitors looked fairly comfortable as they went in search of more goals, beginning with Callum Dove smacking the post with a great low strike although Charlie Glover missed an open goal from the rebound on 58 minutes. 

Seconds later however, Ferals did add to their lead as Jack Brame poked home for his second and Ferals' third of the cup tie.

The striker then went close to hitting a hat-trick just after the hour mark, Brame found space to shoot but was unable to keep it down as the ball went just over. 

Callum Dove however joined his team mate on a brace on 69 minutes, finishing well into the bottom corner after a defence splitting pass. 

George Crowe then got in on the act for Ferals as Jack Brame cleverly threaded Crowe through past the defence to slot home cooly past the goalkeeper from close range, 5-0 to the visitors after 74 minutes. 

Three minutes later it was 6-0 to Ferals, Ben Newdick put the ball in the path of Charlie Glover who did the rest finding the bottom corner via the inside of the post. 

Although that proved to be the final goal of the game, Ferals continued to create chances in search of more goals, notably Jack Brame thundering a strike back into play off the face of the crossbar on 78 minutes. 

Brame was denied a hat-trick again three minutes later, this time denied by a good diving save to thwart a low strike from outside the box. 

Ferals momentarily thought they had a seventh goal with five minutes remaining as Charlie Glover was released free inside the box to find the net by chipping the goalkeeper but the flag was up for offside. 

Jake Peasgood was then set through past the defence by a clever cutback from Jack Brame but the former side footed just over the bar from 12-yards on 86 minutes. 

There was still time for 2 final Ferals opportunities to add to the score sheet, first Ben Newdick heading just over the bsr following a corner whilst Jack Brame poked a shot agonisingly wide off the outside of the post. 

The win for Ferals draws them away to Rattlesden in the third round (date TBC).
