UNITED PROMOTED TO DIVISION TWO AFTER 8-3 WIN
Bury United seal a top two promotion spot in the Premier Logos Bury + District Sunday League Division Three table, with a 8-3 win over Rattlesden, coupled with Haverhill Ex-Servicemen's win over third placed Stowupland Falcons.
It was a slow start from the hosts however, although George Corrie broke through onto the right-hand side of the box, but saw his second minute shot well smothered by goalkeeper Tommy Waldock.
Rattlesden, who sit seventh in the table, took the lead a minute later as Callum Mackie's well taken left wing corner went directly into the roof of the net.
United gradually got into the game, forcing a decent but rather comfortable save from keeper Waldock on 6 minutes, holding onto Joe Phillips' looping shot.
Three minutes later, George Corrie then drive through into space onto the left-hand byline, though Harry Brown's point blank shot from the squared ball was well blocked.
Corrie meanwhile couldn't quite latch onto a a low cross in across the face of goal on 10 minutes, before United did find the equaliser three minutes later.
Max Palmer found space to ferociously arrow a great low shot into the bottom near, right-hand, corner from outside the box.
In quickfire fashion, United raced into a 2-1 lead on 15 minutes, a great ball fed George Corrie whose near flick through the defender's legs gave the forward enough space, on the edge of the box, to smash home into the bottom left-hand corner.
Harry Brown almost extended his side's advantage two minutes later, though his tight angled right-hand cross went just over onto the roof of the net, before the forward was then denied by a good save by the goalkeeper on 26 minutes.
A great long ball from goalkeeper Ethan Doward released Max Palmer through down the right wing whose great low squared ball saw Brown's shot towards the bottom far corner saved by Waldock.
Shortly after the half-hour mark, United extended their lead to 3-1 courtesy of a well worked and well taken goal. Harry Brown flicked a great ball over the defence for George Corrie to race onto, ahead of the onrushing Waldock, to lob the 'keeper audaciously for his second goal of the morning, as it dipped into the top left-hand corner.
Rattlesden though saw a first time shot in space, from inside the box, comfortably held by Doward on 35 minutes, while United almost went further in front two minutes later.
Max Palmer threaded Harry Brown through free down the right wing whose great squared ball on a plate picked out Corrie running in, but the latter's shot from point blank range went just wide of the bottom left-hand corner.
The hosts went into the break 4-1 in front, Harry Brown got on the scoresheet beating goalkeeper Tommy Waldock to a looping ball to head it past him and into the vacant bottom right-hand corner from just outside the box.
It could've been 5-1 at the break, albeit a free header from a right wing corner went just wide of the far post on 42 minutes, while Callum Goddard's great curling shot - from the left-hand edge of the box - was curling into the net but for a defender to head it behind for a corner on 44 minutes.
After the restart, United had virtually all of the major chances, as goalscorer Max Palmer's great wing corner into Joe Phillips saw the latter's header deflected over off Waldock for another corner from 2-yards out on 47 minutes.
The woodwork then thwarted Brown from netting his second goal of the game on 53 minutes, the forward found space 25-yards out to thump a low shot at goal which cannoned back into play off the inside of the bottom left-hand post.
United soon had the ball in the net again two minutes later, but was ruled out for offside. George Corrie was threaded through into an offside position as he smashed home smartly low into the bottom right-hand corner.
The hosts did add a fifth goal on 57 minutes, Brown notching his second as he volleyed home fiercely from the penalty spot into the bottom right-hand corner, 5-1.
Ryan Yallop then tried his luck at goal on 73 minutes but saw his point blank range volley smack back into play off the outside of the near post, before Palmer's low ferocious 30-yard shot was well held by Waldock at his bottom near corner on 75 minutes.
Substitute Josh Allen was next to shoot at goal, but his low shot was comfortably held by Waldock a minute later.
The final ten minutes saw 5 goals fly in at both ends as the game drew to a close with nothing else of note taking place, three of which went to the home side.
Harry Brown completed his hat-trick in the 81st minute, latching onto a through-ball into the box to smash home into the roof of the net, 6-1.
Super sub Jordan Price added his name to the scoresheet two minutes later, firing a good 18-yard strike into the bottom right-hand corner.
A great strike from Max Palmer, to pick up his second of the game, wrapped up the scoring from United's point of view, wrapping a great effort from the left wing into the vacant bottom far corner after 85 minutes.
Rattlesden though drew two goals back, Luke Pumfrett was found free from 5-yards out to slot home into the bottom right-hand corner for his side's second goal of the game on 86 minutes.
Martyn Rodzian made it 8-3 thirty seconds from stoppage time, smashing a great strike home into the roof of the net.
With that referee Kevin Harrington drew to a close a 8-3 victory for Bury United, who currently top the table with 3 games to go - albeit second placed Haverhill Ex-Servicemen have two games in hand.
