Moreton Hall Ferals began their Bury Sunday Division One title defence with a 5-0 win over Bedricks Worth (previously known as Hardwick) at Great Whelnetham. 

The first chance went to hosting Bedricks Worth on 2 minutes as ex-Feral Brandon Salisbury on his competition debut on his return to Bedricks Worth saw his poke to towards goal from inside the box gathered by Ferals goalkeeper Aston Fallows off his line. 

Ferals first chance however came just five minutes in as George Crowe whipped in a dangerous cross into Callum Dove whose neat flick from point blank range was straight at the goalkeeper. 

At the other end, Bedricks Worth drew another save out off Fallows, albeit again routine work for the stopper on 9 minutes as the hosts' first time shot on the edge of the box was hit straight at Aston Fallows. 

Two minutes later though, Ferals had a great chance to break the deadlock. Callum Dove's cutback found Ferals competitive debutant Lewis Kemp free whose ten yard low shot towards the bottom corner was scuffed as the keeper made the save. 

Brandon Salisbury however almost caught Fallows off guard with a 50-yard powerful attempt on target forcing a good catch from the goalkeeper as it threatened to dip underneath his crossbar in the 15th minute. 

Three minutes later though, Jake Peasgood's dangerous left wing curling corner evaded the goalkeeper on his line but wasn't pounced on by the visiting Blue shirts with nobody there.

But the Champions did take the lead with a great strike on 19 minutes as Fred Stewart-Hogg smashed a fierce strike home into the bottom left-hand corner via the inside of the post, 1-0 Ferals. 

In truth it wasn't a game for the purest, but the chances did flow regularly as Callum Dove saw his 20-yard low shot blocked before two minutes later seeing a shot deflected just wide of the bottom near corner on 36 minutes. 

Jake Peasgood's resulting set piece then fell to Callum Dongray dangerously from close range but the latter's half volley was blocked. 

Moments later, Ferals' other competitive debutant Harry Whiting-Noakes went agonisingly close as the midfielder fired a ferocious strike an inch over the top corner from just outside the penalty area. 

Good defending however thwarted Ferals from doubling their lead in the 40th minute as George Crowe's ball on a plate across the six yard box towards goalscorer Fred Stewart-Hogg was intercepted by the defender with the goal gaping. Up the other end after that, Bedricks Worth fired an inch wide of the bottom corner as the first half ticked to a close. 

But four minutes before the interval, Callum Dove looked to double Ferals' lead as the forward was threaded through past the defender only to see his low shot well saved by the diving goalkeeper. 

Fred Stewart-Hogg meanwhile almost added his and Ferals' second goal on 43 minutes, glancing a close range header from a pinpoint Jake Peasgood cross just an inch wide of the bottom corner. 

However, just a minute after the restart a fantastic finish from Lewis Kemp saw Ferals double their lead, the midfielder's low strike from just outside the box crashed into the opposite corner via the inside of the post, 2-0 Ferals. 

At the other end, some great keeping from Aston Fallows kept Bedricks Worth at bay on 48 minutes as the goalkeeper advanced off his line well to smother the shot.

His opposite number though denied Ferals with a good save four minutes later, after Callum Dove held up possession well outside the box, the midfielder teed up Fred Stewart-Hogg whose good strike forced the keeper to tip the ball up in the air before gathering the loose ball. 

Callum Dongray then tested the goalkeeper again on 57 minutes as the defender weaved into space from 30-yards although his shot on the turn at the bottom left-hand corner was well saved by the goalkeeper. 

Seven minutes later, Ferals were awarded a penalty as Callum Dongray's free-kick was handled inside the box. Up stepped Lewis Kemp, looking to pick up his second Ferals goal on his debut, which he did with composure, sending the keeper the wrong way as he dispatched his spot-kick into the bottom right-hand corner, 3-0 Ferals. 

Shortly after that goal, Bedricks Worth looked for a response as a dangerous free-kick found Brandon Salisbury whose diving header was comfortable for Fallows, whilst Callum Dove flicked a header following a corner an inch over the top corner on 69 minutes. 

Ferals substitute Charlie Glover though went agonisingly close to adding to Ferals' lead a minute later, after being fed by Lewis Kemp inside the box the attacking midfielder curled a great first time strike an inch over the crossbar. 

Two goals in the final five minutes rounded off a decent Ferals performance to kick off the new season, as Harry Whiting-Noakes squared the ball across to Callum Dove to tap home from point blank range for 4-0.

Just seconds later, Charlie Glover went close to getting his name on the score sheet though as the substitute flashed a fierce strike just an inch wide of the bottom right-hand corner. 

And it was 5-0 in the 89th minute as Fred Stewart-Hogg picked up his second to round off proceedings as he poked the ball home past the goalkeeper into the net from close range. 

Ferals move onto what will be another stern test on Sunday (5th September), when they travel to Danepak.

Needham Market Under-18s make it two wins in a row with a ruthless 10-0 victory over Harwich & Parkeston. 

And it didn't take long for Needham to have the first chance, just a minute in as Magic Smalls fed Archie Simpson through inside the box one on one with the onrushing goalkeeper who'd narrowed down the angle well to smother the resulting shot. 

Needham then headed a corner over the bar from a corner a minute later, after which Harry Blackburn danced through down the right-hand side inside the box only to fire narrowly over from close range on 4 minutes. 

Three minutes later, Needham went close once more as Magic Smalls took his dangerous free-kick just outside the box short to Archie Exworth, who fired a great first time strike an inch wide of the bottom corner. 

Up the other end, Fred Mallet's clearance on the goal-line deflected off a Harwich player closing down, but fortunately for the home side the rebound was comfortable for Mallet to gather. 

Archie Exworth meanwhile looked to test the opposition goalkeeper on 15 minutes, as his fierce 40-yarder was saved well by the goalkeeper. 

The visiting shot-stopper was then equal to Hugh Cullum's leaping free header from Smalls' pinpoint free-kick towards the top corner three minutes later, whilst Needham's Jay Hosin weaved through dangerously inside the box only to see his low strike deflected an inch wide of the bottom corner on 19 minutes. 

From the resulting corner, the home side drew a good save from the visiting goalkeeper as Magic Smalls weaved into space inside the area where his low shot was parried away well by the goalkeeper down to his left. 

Needham though made their dominance count with 2 goals in the space of four minutes, Harry Blackburn broke the deadlock with a great finish having been fed through inside the box to fire fiercely into the bottom far left-hand corner, 1-0 Needham after 23 minutes. 

As mentioned, it was soon 2-0 to the young Marketmen as a dangerous pullback found Archie Simpson free from 12-yards to sweep home a great first time finish into the bottom left-hand corner. 

Eight minutes later though, Dillon Olias then fed Archie Exworth free in space just outside the box but nobody was around to benefit from his dangerous ball in. Shortly after that a double save from the visiting goalkeeper thwarted Jay Hosin from tripling the hosts' advantage. 

After being threaded through by Hosin inside the box, the keeper advanced off his line well to smother Hosin's shot from point blank range, before then denying him once more on the rebound. 

A long ball towards Blackburn on 34 minutes almost saw Needham benefit from a deflection off Blackburn from the goalkeeper's interception as the ball bounced an inch wide of the bottom corner, before Hosin then saw a great curling strike from just outside the box towards the top corner well saved by the goalkeeper. 

Five minutes later though, the young Reds tripled their lead in deserved fashion as Jay Hosin was threaded through by a defence splitting pass before then finishing cooly through the. advancing 'keeper's legs into the bottom corner, 3-0. 

And it could possibly had been more before the break, had Harry Blackburn' s cutback on the byline was cleared before a shot from just outside the box was blocked by the visiting backline on 41 minutes. 

A goal-line clearance however denied Needham from adding to their lead a minute after the restart as Harry Blackburn's squared ball across fell to Magic Smalls from close range via a deflection, the latter then saw his poked shot at goal well smothered by the goalkeeper. The rebound however rebounded goal-bound off the Needham forward which needed clearing off the line by a well placed defender. 

But it was 4-0 to the home side on 50 minutes as great skill from Harry Blackburn saw the winger beat his defender down the right wing as he then drove into the box to square it across the six yard box to Archie Simpson who had the simple job of bundling it home well into the bottom near corner. 

And just seven minutes after that goal, it was quickly 6-0 to the clinical young Reds, as Harry Blackburn joined Simpson in netting a brace just a minute after. The former won possession inside the box with his back to goal as he drew the goalkeeper off his line where he then rounded him and finished cooly into the vacant bottom left-hand near corner from an acute angle to bring up high fives for the Reds. 

With 33 minutes left on the clock, it was quickly 6-0 to the home side as Archie Shelley threaded Harry Blackburn free in the centre who picked up his hat-trick in a near carbon copy of his second as he rounded the goalkeeper before slotting into the same empty bottom corner. 

Magic Smalls however was denied from adding a seventh Needham goal on 59 minutes, as forward's shot inside the box smothered well by the onrushing goalkeeper, before Smalls then weaved through just outside the box as his shot on the turn went straight into the keeper's chest in the 61st minute. 

Seconds later, it was soon seven nil to the hosts as captain Hugh Cullum exploited space inside the box to notch the ball part the onrushing goalkeeper and tap into the vacant near bottom right-hand corner from point blank range. 

Once again Needham struck again in quickfire fashion as Archie Simpson netted a treble of his own in the 63rd minute in style, as the forward lobbed the goalkeeper off his line despite the best efforts of the defender on the line trying to clear it away. 

A minute later however, Ollie Dann looped his close range header just over the top corner from a Magic Smalls' free-kick, whilst Smalls then curled a dangerous 25-yard free-kick narrowly over the bar on 73 minutes. 

Harry Blackburn however saw his attempted chip over the goalkeeper comfortably saved by the stopper two minutes later, who then denied Archie Simpson's shot from inside the box well off his line on 79 minutes. 

Five minutes later, Needham added a ninth goal as Harry Blackburn was threaded racing through into the box, who then laid it off to Ollie Dann running in free to arrow a great close range strike home ferociously into the bottom right hand corner. 

Magic Smalls wrapped up the rout four minutes from time as Needham's goal tally moved into double figures, Blackburn weaved through before feeding Simpson in space, the latter whom teed up Smalls from 12-yards out to instinctively sweep his powerful finish past the goalkeeper and into the bottom right-hand corner. 

On the stroke of the final whistle however, the visitors almost got a consolation as a long range strike thundered back into play off the face of the crossbar. 

Needham will look to make it 3 wins on the bounce on August 31st (7:30pm) as they welcome AFC Sudbury to Bloomfields in the FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round.

Needham Market's wait for their first win of the new season continues despite their best performance of the season so far away at Coalville Town. 

Manager Kevin Horlock made a change from the equally frustrating defeat to Bromsgrove Sporting last week, with Jake Dye coming into the starting eleven in place of Keiran Morphew, with Josh Pollard moving to centre-back alongside Dan Morphew, the latter whom captained the Marketmen once more. 

Horlock later said it was 'deja-vu' as his side once again were the better side, had by far the majority of the chances but were undone by two costly defensive mistakes towards the end of the first half. 

Despite creating chance after chance, having dominated possession in the process, Needham ended up in the end of a harsh defeat as Coalville took their only two major chances. 

Having suffered the same fate themselves last week, the Ravens will be delighted to have taken three points this time around having also lost their previous two home encounters with the Marketmen. 

And it wasn't long until Needham looked to pose a threat from early on, as Callum Page was fed through down the right wing where the former Academy graduate and Ipswich Town loanee cut inside to the edge the box where his low shot was blocked after 6 minutes. 

Kyle Hammond meanwhile forced the Ravens' skipper Stephen Towers to deny the Midfielder from giving Needham an early lead seven minutes later. Great play from the Marketmen saw Ben Fowkes fed in space by Jake Dye down the right-hand side in the box, the forward then fired a dangerous ball across the face of goal to Hammond a yard out but saw his shot deflected behind by Towers for a corner. 

That chance was soon followed by three quickfire Needham chances in the space of as many minutes, with the first of which falling on 15 minutes. Page once again weaved through inside the box, the forward then fed Luke Ingram the latter whom spun past his defender cleverly only to see his low ball fired dangerously on a plate across the six yard box flash through with nobody around to get the vital finishing touch, whilst a dangerous Needham cross across the face of goal forced Coalville goalkeeper Saul Deeney to punch it behind for a corner ahead of the lurking Dye on his goal-line. 

From the resulting set-piece, Ben Fowkes cut inside dangerously to the edge of the box where the forward found space to thunder a ferocious shot towards the right-hand corner, only to be denied by Deeney who was there to beat the strike away. 

Up the other end though, Coalville had their first half chance of the game on 19 minutes as Thomas McGlinchey got through free down the left-hand side but fired fiercely into the side netting of the top corner. 

Eleven minutes later, Needham were temporarily reduced to ten men as Ben Fowkes needed his arm attended to after being accidentally grazed by the studs of Pierpoint as the defender cleared the ball out of play, causing a gash of blood requiring the number 11 to swap to the unneeded number 17 shirt. 

Nine minutes before the break, a deflection by the defender denied the Marketmen the breakthrough their performance deserved as a great long ball released Page through inside the box, the latter then held up possession well before firing a dangerous low shot across towards the far bottom left-hand corner but was taken an inch wide for a corner by a vital defensive deflection. 

Deeney however was on hand to deny the visitors again on 39 minutes as Kyle Hammond teed up Luke Ingram free just outside the box who fired low and firecely through the defenders but was well held by the goalkeeper down to his left-hand side. 

That save became crucial as a defensive mistake from Dye saw Coalville take a pivotal 1-0 lead against the run of play a minute later. Luke Shaw latched onto a throw in before cutting inside down the left inside the box, but although his low curling strike towards the bottom far corner was tipped onto the post by Needham goalkeeper Marcus Garnham, Thomas McGlinchey was on hand in space to tap home from point blank range on the rebound. 

The hosts then rubbed salt into Needham wounds just a minute before the break as Dan Morphew's pass fell straight to Joe Doyle-Charles in midfield, the latter then drove through the Needham half only to see his, low 25-yarder parried away by another great save from Garnham down to his left-hand side, but again the hosts had a man lurking free, this time being Timothy Berridge, on the rebound to tap home into the gaping far corner from close range, 2-0 Coalville. 

Into the second half, despite an early goal-line clearance from Pollard Needham once again dominated possession and had the more of the chances - although again left wondering how they didn't get on the scoresheet. However, on the other hand having a two goal lead to defend, Coalville grew in confidence as a goal-line clearance just after the interval kept Needham's hopes of getting a result alive. After Garnham misjudged a right wing cross, the ball fell to goalscorer Berridge free at the near post where the striker's shot was denied by Josh Pollard crucially placed on the goal-line. 

Up the other end, Needham went agonisingly close to reducing the deficit on 51 minutes, after Ben Fowkes' low dangerous ball across the six yard box was cleared, Callum Page's audacious cross into the box picked out the head of Luke Ingram from close range, who glanced it an inch wide of the post. 

Two minutes later, Needham continued to probe for a deserved goal back as Ingram fed Kyle Hammond through on the byline, the latter then rounded the committed Deeney but couldn't quite keep the ball in play as he looked to cut the ball back to Byron Lawrence. 

Ben Fowkes meanwhile was denied by a good wave by Deeney on 56 minutes, the forward weaved through smartly just outside the box only to see his low shot gathered by Deeney at the bottom right-hand corner. 

At the other end however, goalscorer McGlinchey played a neat one two with fellow scorer Berridge as the former ran through into the box one on one with Garnham, but it was the Needham stopper who came out on top, bearing away the strike down low to his left-hand side on 59 minutes. 

Needham however would've been forgiven for feeling like they were fighting a lost battle as the visitors were denied from halving the deficit from point blank range on 64 minutes. Ben Fowkes was released through past the defender down the left hand side, the Midfielder then whipped a dangerous ball across the six yard box low to Luke Ingram running in at the far post whose shot was smothered by the diving Deeney who blocked it with his chest. 

Like the Bromsgrove game, in search of getting a result, Horlock threw on four forwards up top as substitute Andy Fennell was the next to be denied from getting the away side on the score sheet, the pacey forward was threaded through past the defence only to see his shot well smothered by the goalkeeper off his line well on 70 minutes. 

At the other end, Garnham was forced into a comfortable catch to deny a 25-yard shot at the roof at the net on 85 minutes, whilst Ingram saw his close range shot blocked following substitute Tom Maycock's dangerous cross a minute later. 

Then with the final chance of the game, Josh Pollard's dangerous ball into the six yard box was kept in by Callum Sturgess on the far side whose ball back in was nodded just wide by the centre-back at the far post. 

That brought to an end another disappointing afternoon for the Marketmen, despite having been the better team. Needham have Bank Holiday Monday off as they prepare for Saturday's Emirates FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round home tie with fellow league opposition St Ives Town in a repeat of the league fixture at Bloomfields just weeks earlier.

INTERVIEW | KEVIN HORLOCK | POST MATCH | NEEDHAM MARKET V BROMSGROVE SPORTING | 21.08.2021

After a 1-0 home defeat to Bromsgrove Sporting, Needham Market manager Kevin Horlock reflected on the afternoon. 

DK: Frustrating day today, what are your thoughts?

KH: Exactly that, it was really frustrating in many ways. I think it's probably the best we've played in the three games that we've had. I thought we controlled the game. Obviously then they scored the goal, which is really disappointing from our point of view, could've been stopped way earlier and it's just looped in and barely touched the net and then it became a really frustrating afternoon, where obviously they're on the back of two defeats. So they're looking for a result and they just played the game, they took ages on throw-ins, ages on goal-kicks, players going down. All the time the game was so bitty and it was so frustrating, but it is what it is. We're really disappointed not to have won the game, let alone got a point. I think we had a couple of really good chances first half, on another day we score them and I can't really remember them having a shot on target at all, apart from obviously the loopy headed goal that they scored. From their point of view, they'd be pleased obviously, but from our point of view it was really frustrating and we go away with no points when really we should've took 3.

DK: Definitely, like you say we had all the chances, they had one but unfortunately for us, football works that way.

KH: Yeah, it can be a cruel game, I said to the lads there 'you've got to keep your head up and believe in the process and what we're trying to do.' It's been a really difficult start and it's not going to get any easier, obviously we've got an away trip to Coalville to look forward to, but I believe in these players. Last year obviously expectations have gone up but teams are always going to have blips. Hopefully because we're having our blip so early on we might not get ours later on in the season. It's just a game of momentum, I think a few lads are little out of sorts at the minute, not at full speed. That's one of those things, you win your first game and then you can build a little bit of momentum, but at the minute we're just struggling to get that first win. But I'm sure it'll come sooner rather than later with how hard the lads work, so it'll come!

DK: Exactly, like you say when we get the first win who knows, we could win ten on the trot!

KH: Yeah, that's how football works, it's just a shame that when you're on the back end of it, like we've played really well today and deserved to win and haven't, that can have an effect in the same manner where you're going out to win and you feel like you've got the world on your shoulder. But I just want them to play with freedom and not worry about that. Let me worry about the results and just go and play and show everybody what they can do and I'm sure it'll all fall into place soon and we'll be up and running and hopefully climb the table and get near up in and around the playoffs where I'd like to think we'll end up!

DK: I think being brutally honest, the most frustrating part of it is that Marcus was virtually a bystander and this is no disrespect to Bromsgrove, they did what they wanted to like you said, but normally...

KH: Yeah, Marco's not had anything to do, I think they only had one shot late on when I changed shape. I threw bodies forward, at one point we had four up front. We were trying to get that equaliser but it was just one of those days, sometimes it happens in football where everything you try to do just doesn't come off. Luke's had a header, on another day, 9 times out of 10 that goes in. It's just hit the goalkeeper, it was just one of them days. A day that I'd like to forget and we move on. We'll train Monday, we'll train Thursday and we'll have the trip to Coalville and one thing that I can assure everyone is that the lads will be up for it, be ready for it and give everything to try and get that first win.

DK: You could tell that it wasn't going to be our day, I don't know if you agree, when after we had that flurry of chances, like after the first 22 minutes of the half and then it petered out and then we had a late chance?

KH: We had chances at good times, clear chances and like I say on another day we'd have scored two or three today. It didn't happen, we didn't ask enough questions of the goalie, I think most of the chances were straight at him so he had quite a comfortable afternoon, which is disappointing. If one of them goes in I think we possibly go on and win the game comfortably.

DK: And luke you say we've got two really tough away games now.

KH: To be fair though, I'm quite a superstitious guy. I've only ever won at Coalville, I know I've only took one game there - it was one of my first away games - in fact it might've been my second away game [and his second in charge overall] actually and we won on that night. So hopefully history repeats itself and we get our first win at Coalville!

DK: Well, hopefully touch wood it'd be three times on the trot as we've won 2 there.

KH: Third time lucky! Yeah something like that, yeah hopefully, the lads will be up for it, we'll be ready and we'll be doing all we can to get that first win!

Moreton Hall Ferals conclude pre-season with a good away win at Bardwell Sports. 

After a closely matched first half, in which Ferals only scored once, the Division One Champions hit Bardwell for six, with Callum Dove netting four of the visitors seven goals scored during the morning. 

It took just 30 seconds for Ferals to test the Bardwell defence, as Callum Dove's low shot on the edge of the box was well blocked by the defender, whilst Jake Peasgood's glancing header, from Fred Stewart-Hogg's flick on, towards the top middle part of the net forced the goalkeeper into a great save, tipping it over his crossbar in the fourth minute. 

Within a minute however on 14 minutes, Callum Dove hit two decent shots just wide of the target, having driven through past the defender into the box before shooting an inch wide of the bottom far corner in quick succession. 

Six minutes later however, Fred Stewart-Hogg almost broke the deadlock, had he not had handled Lewis Kemp's dangerous low ball across the six yard box to the sliding midfielder before poking home from point blank range.

But the away side did break the deadlock on 22 minutes as Callum Dongray started the move by picking out Jake Peasgood with a great long ball out on the right wing, the winger then whipped in a dangerous low ball into Callum Dove free from 2 yards out, who after seeing his first shot smothered at point blank range by the goalkeeper was on hand to net the rebound home into the bottom right-hand corner, 1-0 Ferals. 

Five minutes later, some great play from the away side almost fruited in a second goal, great link up play between Lewis Kemp and Callum Dove saw the former get onto the return free dangerously on the left byline, though his low ball across the face of goal just evades Dove. 

Up the other end though, Ade Crowe in goal for the visitors was forced into a strong catch to deny a shot on target. 

Thirteen minutes before the break, Fred Stewart-Hogg went narrowly close to doubling his side's lead as the midfielder flicked Dan Allen's, inviting ball in from 25-yards out narrowly wide of the far post. 

Ade Crowe however thwarted the home side with another strong stop on 35 minutes, Bardwell quickly broke through dangerously down the left-hand side only to see their shot tipped over the crossbar well by Crowe, before the home side then fired a dangerous strike from just outside the box an inch over the bar. 

Two minutes later, Crowe denied Bardwell once more, saving the low shot well from point blank range having dangerously weaved inside into the box. 

But the last chance of the half though fell to the Ferals in the 38th minute as a dangerous header flicked on towards the top far corner from a Kemp corner needed clearing of the line by a well placed defender. 

The second half though turned out to be a more clinical affair from the Ferals as they added six goals in the second forty-five minutes and like the first half, Ferals had the first chance of the half just 30 seconds after kick off. 

Jake Peasgood's low right wing cross found goalscorer Callum Dove a yard out at the near post, where the attacker's shot was deflected an inch wide for a corner. 

Dove meanwhile was denied from close range by a good low save by the Bardwell goalkeeper on 47 minutes, whilst up the other end the hosts shot an inch wide of the bottom corner from 30-yards out a minute later. 

Chances continues to flow though as Stewart-Hogg saw a low shot from close range deflected narrowly wide for a corner four minutes later, before Harry Whiting-Noakes fired his shot an inch over the top right-hand corner just moments later. 

It was soon 3-0 to Ferals though courtesy of two goals within five minutes, the second Ferals goal of the afternoon came from the penalty spot as Jake Peasgood placed his spot-kick out off the reach of the goalkeeper into the right-hand corner after Dove was fouled from behind on 54 minutes. 

But between the two goals, Ferals then had two great chances to extend their lead, as Jake Peasgood's low cross saw both Callum Dove and Lewis Kemp see their shots from close range blocked soon after the goal, before Dove then saw another low shot well blocked three minutes later from Dongray's clever through-ball. 

Dove and Dongray though were involved in Ferals' third goal of the game as the latter's free header back across was helped on by Stewart-Hogg across the goal-line to Dove who glanced his header home into the left-hand corner, 3-0 Ferals. 

Dove then almost had a hat-trick shortly after the hour mark, as forward's poke towards goal was smothered by the goalkeeper before the rebound then bounced off Dove and just wide for a goal-kick. 

The latter was then denied by a good save by the goalkeeper once more on 63 minutes, with Dove's latest strike sneaking under the retreating defender towards goal only to be well saved by the shot-stopper, whilst Stewart-Hogg then went close, headong just over from a Ferals corner soon after. 

Seconds after Bardwell fired a good strike just wide, Callum Dove picked up his hat-trick and Ferals' fourth goal of the game as the forward cooly finished off Lewis Kemp's threaded ball past the defence to finish past the goalkeeper at his near bottom left-hand corner on 67 minutes. 

Arguably the score was getting a tad harsh on Bardwell as Ferals hit five just two minutes later with Dove helping himself to his fourth goal, after Ben Newdick's low cross picked out the goalscorer free from close range to finish first time into the bottom left-hand corner. 

Straight from kick-off however it was rapidly made 6-0 with a ruthless finish from Callum Dongray, who drove forward before rifling home from 35-yards into the bottom left-hand corner. 

Ferals' Trialist then tested the goalkeeper with a good low strike from 40-yards, but the Bardwell stopper was equal to it on 72 minutes. 

Following a solid performance in goal Ferals manager Ade Crowe then took a well earned rest as the goalkeeper was replaced by George Crowe inbetween the sticks with 16 minutes left on the clock. 

Callum Dongray though almost doubled his own goal tally for the game on 76 minutes as the defender's powerful 20-yard volley swerved towards the top corner as it went just wide for a corner off the inside top right-hand post. The resulting set-piece meanwhile saw the Ferals' Trialist loop his free header just over from close range. 

Jake Peasgood however saw his side footed shot go wide via the bottom face of the left-hand post soon after, before Dongray then fired another 20-yard good strike just over the bar. 

Ferals then wrapped up the scoring with twelve minutes left with a great finish from Fred Stewart-Hogg, curling home into the bottom right-hand corner after being teed up by Lewis Kemp, 7-0 after 78 minutes. 

The action wasn't over though, as Whiting-Noakes dipped a great dipping 35-yarder that needed tipping up into the air by the goalkeeper three minutes later, whilst Dongray fired an inch wide of the bottom corner from 25-yards on 84 minutes. 

A great drop-kick down field from George Crowe created what would've been a well worked team goal four minutes from time, as his ball picked out Lewis Kemp free inside the box who then squared it across the face of goal in towards Fred Stewart-Hogg who just couldn't get the touch it needed. 

But a good save from the home goalkeeper denied Ben Newdick from adding his name to the score sheet in the penultimate minute, as the stopper was well positioned to punch away Newdick's curling strike from the edge of the box. 

Ferals begin their Division One title defence away at Hardwick on Sunday (29th August).

An 85th minute equaliser from Tom Pinyoun maintains the young Blues' unbeaten league record after 3 matches against a strong Haverhill Rovers side.

Bury Town Under-18's maintain their unbeaten record following an evenly matched home draw with Haverhill Rovers. 

The chances flowed throughout between the two sides, with the home side having the first notable chance in the third minute, as Tom Pinyoun's low cross into the six yard box needed clearing behind for a corner at the near post. 

Up the other end though, Bury goalkeeper Joe Wilson was forced into action, diving down to his right-hand side to palm Smalls' low shot in space from a corner behind for another set-piece a minute later. 

A great save however from Rovers goalkeeper Charlie Bell denied Angus Mills from breaking the deadlock on 15 minutes, as the forward was threaded the defence haring through into the penalty area looking to poke the ball past the onrushing shot-stopper and into the net only to see it well smothered by the keeper, who'd narrowed the angle down well. 

Clinton Frank meanwhile curled a strike narrowly over the top right hand corner from just outside the box on 19 minutes, before the latter fed Ben Haddoch in acres of space from 30-yards out, though the latter fired his low strike narrowly wide of the bottom left-hand corner, two minutes later. 

The visitors though went just as close to the opening goal of the night on 22 minutes as Stone headed just wide of the post from a dangerous cross. 

Bury however had huge appeals for a penalty waved away for a challenge on Mills, whilst Stone's low left wing strike was well saved Wilson on his goal-line on 24 minutes. 

Seconds later though, great defending from Elliott Lacey denied Stone a free shot at goal, recovering well to dispossess the striker in a shooting position. 

Great play from the Blues meanwhile was thwarted by some more good goalkeeping on 32 minutes, as Bell was alert to rush off his line and intercept Mills' threaded ball through the defence towards Pinyoun. Angus Mills then went an inch away from putting the hosts in front of 34 minutes, directing his free header from Zane Robinson's dangerous right wing free-kick just wide of the near post from 10-yards. 

Eight minutes later, Rovers went close to opening the scoring as they flashed a dangerous strike across the face of goal from the byline just wide for a goal-kick. 

A minute before the interval however, Jack Turner went just as close, after being fed through onto the edge of the box, the striker fired his shot just wide of the bottom left-hand corner, signalling the end of an entertaining goalless opening 45 minutes. 

But the deadlock was broken three minutes into the second half, as a Rovers swift counter attack saw Stone break into the Bury penalty area before finishing cooly low past Wilson and into the bottom middle part of the net, 0-1 Rovers. 

Bury responded quickly, albeit not leading to the equaliser they would have craved as Angus Mills hares through free down the right-hand side in the box only to see his dangerous ball across the face of goal flash just an inch wide of the bottom far corner, with nobody in Blue able to capitalise. 

Down the other end, Rovers looked to pounce on a dangerous turnover of possession, 25-yards outside the Bury penalty area, only to be thwarted well by Wilson who was equal to the half volley towards his bottom left-hand corner on 53 minutes, whilst Rovers' Sykes then curled a fierce 25-yard free-kick an inch wide of the same corner 4 minutes later. 

The major chances then became more difficult to come by as time ticked down, with ten minutes separating that Sykes' free-kick and Angus Mills firing his shot just over from 30-yards out. 

A great save from Wilson then denied Rovers what would've been a crucial second goal with 20 minutes to go, reacting quickly to deny Brooks' low ferocious low strike from inside the box with his legs, whilst the away side fired just wide off the bottom corner moments later. 

Bury though grabbed a deserved late equaliser with a great finish from Tom Pinyoun five minutes from time. Ben Haddoch's right wing free-kick fell to Pinyoun inside the box, who then arrowed a ferocious thunderbolt strike home into the top left-hand corner, 1-1.

Although the draw was by far the fairest result, both sides had a chance each to snatch all three points late on. 

Just after conceding, Rovers forced a good save from Wilson a minute later, forcing the goalkeeper to shovel a good shot behind for a corner, which the visitors then headed narrowly over. 

Then just as the game entered stoppage time a strong catch from Bell at his top right-hand corner denied Bury a last minute winner, after Clinton Frank's dangerous cutback found Angus Mills in space inside the box, who then looked to replicate Pinyoun's equalising shot to a 'T'.

Both sides though had to settle for a well earned point each as Bury have a week break until they welcome Lakenheath on Monday 6th September.

A frustrating day for Needham Market ends in defeat to Bromsgrove Sporting who pick up their first goal of the season. 

Manager Kevin Horlock made one change to Tuesday's draw with St Ives Town as Billy Hunt was replaced by Josh Pollard, with the latter starting at right-back whilst Kyle Hammond moved to the number 10 role and Callum Page started up top in Hunt's position. 

The Marketmen started brightly, arguably on top for the first 25-30 minutes of the encounter and had the majority of the chances throughout, but couldn't make it count as much as they would've liked to have, with the first chance falling the Reds' way in the fourth minute as Ben Fowkes' long ball was flicked on well by Callum Page although the goalkeeper rushed out off his box well to clear ahead of Luke Ingram. 

Clever play from the home side meanwhile brought the first shot on target of the afternoon on 17 minutes, after a interchange of passes in which Josh Pollard threaded it past the opposition into Ingram, who in turn fed Callum Page through just outside the box. The Ipswich Town loanee, and former Needham academy graduate, then picked out Ben Fowkes with a great low ball through the defence at the far post inside the box, but the forward's low shot was comfortable for Onodi to save at his near post. 

Needham continued to test the Bromsgrove defence four minutes later as Luke Ingram looped a close range header narrowly over the crossbar from a great left wing cross from Callum Sturgess, whilst Dan Morphew stood firm to block Broadhurst's shot from just outside the box on 28 minutes. 

Bromsgrove then began to grow into it and punished Needham with their only real major chance of the afternoon just after the half-hour mark, as Liam Spink rose highest at the far post to loop his header home into the bottom left-hand corner from Leon Broadhurst's left wing cross, 0-1.

The home side though looked to respond three minutes later, when Callum Page's dangerous low cross threaded Kyle Hammond through inside the box, although the latter's close range shot was smothered by the defence before Luke Ingram's shot on the follow up was blocked. 

The chances kept coming for the Marketmen though as Byron Lawrence's free-kick was flicked on by Keiran Morphew at the near post, finding Ben Fowkes free at the far post, only for the striker to fire just wide of the bottom left-hand corner from close range a minute later m

Needham meanwhile then went agonisingly close twice within two minutes, the first saw Noah Collard thread Callum Page through one on one with Onodi with a dangerous long low ball round the defence, but the forward's shot however was well saved by the onrushing goalkeeper diving to his right on 42 minutes. 

Whilst the second saw Luke Ingram spin into space just outside the box as he fired a ferocious strike that whistled just an inch wide of the bottom right-hand corner. 

A minute into first half stoppage time, some good defending from the visitors thwarted some dangerous play from the home side as Ingram held up possession well inside the box before laying the ball off to Page, whose low ball into Hammond saw the latter denied by a defensive block from close range. 

Into the second half, some inspired Goalkeeping from the Bromsgrove goalkeeper Onodi denied Needham from drawing back level, which they arguably deserved on the balance of play during the first three quarters of the afternoon. 

After which point, the game went flat which almost sealed the points for the visitors, but before that Josh Pollard was the first Needham man to be denied ten minutes after the restart. 

Callum Page started the move off by threading Kyle Hammond through inside the box down the right-hand side, the latter then fed Josh Pollard by the byline, whose low effort was pounced on by the goalkeeper.

A great reaction save from the visiting shot-stopper however prevented Luke Ingram from heading Needham back level two minutes later, tipping the forward's header over his crossbar from Callum Page's cross. 

On the hour mark, some more creative play from the home side was again denied by some resolute defending, Callum Sturgess' cross in, from Page's pass, found Ingram beat the defender to it in order to tee up Hammond, although the defender was able to intercept it. 

The Reds though went within the width of the goal-line from drawing level on 63 minutes as Sturgess' dangerous ball into the six yard box was headed goal-wards by Ingram, although his effort agonisingly stayed out as it bounced off the goalkeeper's legs and onto the goal-line where it was booted clear. 

Looking to continue the momentum, Needham went close again on 64 minutes as substitute Billy Hunt saw his shot from inside the box go just wide for a corner, whilst Byron Lawrence's low dangerous 20-yard free-kick curled round towards the far corner only to be comfortably caught by Onodi two minutes later. 

Luke Ingram meanwhile broke down the right-hand side in the box, the forward then teed up Billy Hunt whose shot was deflected narrowly behind the far post for a corner on 67 minutes. 

Up the other end a minute into stoppage time, Nathan Hayward could've added to the visitors' advantage late on, as the midfielder floated a shot from just outside the box just wide of the far right-hand post. 

But with the last chance of the afternoon a minute later, the Marketmen went close to earning a point as Billy Hunt looped a close range header just over from a dangerous Luke Ingram right wing cross at the far post. 

The Marketmen will look to put the result behind them ahead of their trip to Coalville Town next weekend, ahead of an home FA Cup tie with St Ives the following weekend.

Short report

Bromsgrove Sporting pick up their first win of the new season with a professional performance on a frustrating day for the Marketmen. 

The home side though had more of the chances, but didn't make them count unlike the visitors who made their only real chance count. 

The first chance of the game however fell to the hosts on 17 minutes, as Fowkes' low shot at the near post was easy for the goalkeeper after Callum Page's clever low ball through the defence. 

Whilst the home side had more of the ball, they couldn't quite grab the goal they so evidently craved as Luke Ingram looped his header just over from Callum Sturgess' cross. 

Against the run of play though the visitors broke the deadlock, with their first goal of the new season as Spink rose highest to loop home a header from Broadhurst's cross, 0-1 Bromsgrove on 31 minutes. 

The Marketmen though responded strongly to the set back, going close to restoring parity on 34 minutes as Page's ball across to Hammond was well smothered by the defender, before Ingram's shot on the follow up was blocked. 

Moments later, Ben Fowkes then fired a low shot agonisingly wide at the near post, whilst Page's low shot from 20-yards was well saved by the onrushing goalkeeper in 42 minutes. 

Arguably Needham's best chance of the half came in the 44th minute when Luke Ingram spun well just outside the box only to see his ferocious shot whistle an inch wide of the bottom corner. 

Into the second half, the Marketmen continued to push for an equaliser as Josh Pollard's low effort from close range was well saved by the goalkeeper guarding his near post. 

As time ticked on it didn't look like being Needham's day as Ingram's close range header from Page's audacious cross was tipped over well by the goalkeeper. 

With 27 minutes to go, Needham went the width of the goal-line from drawing back level as Ingram's header bounced off the goalkeeper's legs and onto the goal-line where it was cleared to safety. 

Hunt then had a shot deflected just wide for a corner, before Lawrence's dangerous 20-yard free-kick was well saved by the goalkeeper at his far post. 

Arguably, Needham had enough chances to at least pick up a point but it just wouldn't go their way as Hunt's shot was deflected behind for a corner on 67 minutes. 

After that, the chances dried up with the final result becoming almost inevitable, until Hunt looped his header narrowly over from Ingram's cross in stoppage time.

Post Match Interview | Kevin Horlock Post Match Interview | Needham Market v St Ives Town | 17.08.2021

After Needham Market's draw on Tuesday against St Ives Town I spoke to Manager Kevin Horlock to get his thoughts on the game.

DK: Decent result tonight, what did you make of it?

KH: I think the positives are we get our first point of the season. I think as a collective we were coming into tonight's game and wanting more, which is the right way to go about it. So we come away a little bit disappointed. I'll always be honest, like I said in my last interview, I think last week we probably didn't deserve to win, tonight was probably the same. We just didn't quite do enough. We're not quite firing on all cylinders, which we know, so there's a little bit of tweaking to be done. It's been a disjointed Pre-Season, that's not an excuse, that's just reality and we've not quite hit the heights that we want to hit like, we hit last season. We'll get there, the lads will keep their heads up, we'll dust ourselves down and like I said to them 'you can be disappointed in that and analyse and look like we will be.' We'll train on Thursday and then there's another game right round the corner, Bromsgrove (Sporting) at home, another home fixture which is nice before we go on the road a few times, so the positives are it's a point on the board and it's something to build on.

It was a little bit of a bitty game I think, it probably wasn't good for the spectators or neutral, I suppose it wasn't a free flowing game of football and give them (St Ives) credit for that. They've travelled here, they've won their home game last week and come here on a Tuesday night and made it really difficult. They slowed things up, they played for free-kicks and got them, which I'd tilt my hat to them, do you know what I mean. That was playing the game the way they wanted to do it and they walk away here with a point. So we didn't take advantage as we should, albeit we obviously went in front with a fantastic goal and then you want to build on it and it's just so disappointing. I said to the lads at half-time 'you want to make this a fortress, you want to win games of course. Just go and do the ugly stuff, go and do the horrible stuff we'll and you'll win this game.' And we've got undone by one of our set-pieces, which was so disappointing because we've not been great at them. It's probably the best we've done on them this season and possibly last season, where we took our time, set it up. There was a few little errors where we moved in, ran back the one that steps over it where it was a little bit unfortunate. Could we have hit first time, it's just fell to them, one pump forward and their eleven who I thought was their best player of the night, with his pace, showed the composure and obviously scored. So it was really disappointing, I was disappointed in the way we conceded but another positive is they counter attacked quite a lot and they cheated when we had possession quite a lot, which is the one way they went and caused us problems. But we stood firm and didn't concede again and got a point, so that's a positive as well.

DK: And the team slowly gelling together had the return of Pagey added to it.

KH: Yeah, Pagey, we're obviously made up to have him back at the club. We all know what a wonderful footballer he is. And we are getting there, there are little tweaks made, there is lads that need a bit longer to settle in. So we're not quite there, but we will get there and obviously Pagey coming into the group will give us all a good lift, which you see in glimpses tonight. Obviously again he's coming back and will have to find his feet a little bit again, along with the new lads. We'll keep working hard, we'll trying to do the right things and hopefully we gel even more as a team sooner rather than later.

DK: And like you said the games come thick and fast so there's always opportunity to right any wrongs, in the next one.

KH: Yeah, yeah, I know expectations have gone up, we always want to win games, we want to be successful as a group. But I said, there's going to be blips. We've lost last week, we've only got a point tonight, which people will see as quite negative but I'm a big believer in keeping bongs positive, so a point to build on and I know what group I've got. I know they're going to work hard, and I'm sure when the penny does drop and it all falls into place we're going to be a force to be reckoned with like we were last season.

YOUNG BLUES HIT FIVE TO MAKE IT TWO WINS IN A ROW

Braces from Angus Mills and Tom Pinyoun, either side of a goal from Jack Turner see Bury beat Mildenhall for the second time in 10 days.

Bury Town Under-18s make it 2 wins in a row following a one sided second half after a closely matched opening half away at Mildenhall Town. 

The local rivalry was more closely matched than the first league game of the season the Monday previous in which Bury ran out 8-1 winners at Ram Meadow, with the first half especially being an end to end affair. 

Both sides started brightly as Noah Moss in the Mildenhall goal caught two decent Bury crosses on his line, whilst Zak Morley headed narrowly over from close range for the hosts in the fourth minute. 

The first shot on target fell to the visiting Blues on 12 minutes, Clinton Frank drove through down the left-hand side into the box, but the forward's low shot at a tight angle was blocked behind by Moss guarding his near post for a corner, from which the home side headed narrowly over from a dangerous Robinson set piece. 

Bury goalkeeper Joe Wilson meanwhile was alert to take a comfortable catch just underneath his crossbar from an attempt from long range on 16 minutes whilst at the other end a dangerous threaded ball through to Jack Turner was intercepted well by Noah Moss in the home goal. A minute later though, Ben Haddoch then fired a 25-yard strike an inch over the top right-hand corner onto the roof the net, before Jack Turner then fired narrowly wide of the near post from a tight angle on the right-hand side inside the area in the 18th minute. 

Jack Turner was denied from breaking the deadlock a minute later due to a great save by Moss at his near post, the forward driving through into the box only to see his low shot well blocked by the boot of Moss. 

Bury however did take the lead on 21 minutes, Jack Heider drove free down the left wing where the left-back squared a great ball across to Angus Mills running in who had the simple task of tapping home into the top right-hand corner from close range, 1-0 Bury. 

Mildenhall though responded almost instantly, drawing back level in the 23rd minute, Josh Bullingham ran through free towards the edge of the box before cleverly teeing up Vush Benyu free just inside the box, who expertly guided the ball into the bottom left-hand corner, 1-1.

At the other end, a good save from Moss denied Bury from retaking the lead on 29 minutes, as a Bury header at the far post from a left wing cross needed tipping behind his right-hand post by Moss for a corner. 

It was from Zane Robinson's resulting setpiece that Bury retook the lead on the half-hour mark, the first of two goals inside a minute, as Angus Mills picked up his brace, finishing well into the top right-hand corner from Robinson's set piece, 2-1.

Bury's third closely followed that courtesy of a clinical finish from Jack Turner, who beat his defender inside the box before firing a ferocious strike Home into the bottom left-hand corner. 

Soon after that goal, Angus Mills then laid off possession to Ben Haddoch free from 30-yards out but his low strike was comfortable for Moss. 

Five minutes later, some great play from the away side almost saw Bury add to their lead, after Tom Pinyoun's squared ball across forced Jack Turner wide at the far post the latter then returned the favour to Pinyoun a yard out from goal but his low ball bounced off the midfielder's knee going just an inch wide of the near right-hand Post. 

Two minutes before the break, Angus Mills then drove through dangerously down the right wing before cutting in dangerously onto the byline close to goal. Although the winger's dangerous cutback was cleared, the ball fell to Tom Pinyoun just outside the box, who danced his way inside only to see his shot deflected narrowly wide of the bottom left-hand corner for a Bury corner. 

Just into first half stoppage time, Mildenhall went close with a dangerous left wing free-kick as Aaron Hamer's set-piece took a deflection as it ghosted an inch wide of the far post. 

Into the second half, Bury were ultimately on top for large amounts of it, although the hosts had the first chance a minute after the restart, firing an inch wide of the top far corner from the left-hand edge of the box. 

Bury though extended their lead to 4-1 on 51 minutes, Angus Mills slotted Tom Pinyoun through with a great defence splitting pass, setting the latter one-on-one with the advancing Moss just outside the box where the midfielder audaciously chipped the keeper as the ball then bounced down and into the roof of the net. 

Five minutes later, Clinton Frank cut inside well from the left wing before letting fly at goal, dipping a ferocious strike wide of the top far corner, before the forward then drove through down the opposite wing on 59 minutes. This time curling an audacious ball around the defence across the six yard box, picking out a man at the far post whose ball back set up Jack Turner from close range. The forward's header though was straight at Moss to take the catch. 

Two minutes later, a clever one-two between Clinton Frank and Jack Hurrell saw the former test the home defence once more. After Hurrell's clever ball through the middle of the defence threaded Frank through down the right, the latter got up quickly after a challenge by a defender to look to squeeze the ball home at the near post from close range but his shot was deflected just wide for a corner. 

Zane Robinson however went close with a. dangerous 30-yard free-kick on 64 minutes, curling an inch wide of the top left-hand post, whilst at the other end the Bury defence stood firm to block two decent Mildenhall shots from just outside the box three minutes later. 

Down the other end, Bury captain Tom Gee rushed in unmarked to loop another great Zane Robinson corner towards goal from 10-yards, although his effort was comfortable for Moss to gather on 69 minutes. 

Bury kept the pressure on the home side though as Angus Mills fired an inch wide of the bottom right-hand corner from just outside the box on 70 minutes, before George Allison's bullet header from a pinpoint Zane Robinson dangerous free-kick was well caught by Moss at his top right-hand corner two minutes later. 

The home side meanwhile were reduced to ten men on 74 minutes as Ryan Wilson was shown a second yellow card for halting Jack Hurrell's run through down the right wing. 

With eleven minutes remaining, another stunning goal from Tom Pinyoun rounded off the scoring after Clinton Frank's lay off, the goalscorer grabbed his second goal by firing a great 20-yard strike just inside the left-hand post past Moss, 5-1 Bury. 

The win makes it two wins from two so far for Bury early in the league season, ahead of Monday's home clash with Haverhill Rovers.
