Moreton Hall Ferals maintain their 100% start to the season with a 3-1 success over Brandon Town Community. 

Brandon had the first opportunity on 2 minutes, shooting straight at Aston Fallows. Brandon then drew a comfortable save out of the home keeper on 5 minutes, as the low shot on the right edge of the box was caught by the diving Fallows at his bottom far corner. Three minutes later, Brandon had another attempt on the right but went wide of the far post. Ferals though hit back, as Jordan Barber's low shot on the left in the box was blocked in the eleventh minute. Sixteen minutes in Ferals had a great chance to take the lead, George Crowe swinging in a great free-kick, out on the left wing from distance, finding Callum Dongray close to goal at the far post, as the centre-back's header was deflected just wide of the left post. A minute later, Dongray had another two attempts at goal- the first being a header from inside the area on the right, only to be blocked. The ball fell back to Dongray slightly further out whose shot was deflected behind the near post. Dongray then grabbed the opener for Ferals on 18 minutes, George Crowe's corner in on the right found the former on the right point blank range from goal as the header was blocked straight bsck to Dongray who smashed the ball low and hard into the bottom right corner, 1-0 Ferals. Three minutes later Ferals had a great chance to extend their lead, Fred Stweart-Hogg got through on the left byline as his low cross in was put behind, whilst half-hearted penalty appeals were dismissed by the referee.

Brandon meanwhile almost equalised on 25 minutes, the away side got through dangerously in acres of space on the right hand side in the box, smashing a low strike off the inside of the base of the near post, as the ball bounced away to the Ferals' sigh of relief. Brandon then had another good chance on 27 minutes, after finding space on the right hand side in the box the low ball across the face of goal missed the man at the far post and went behind for a goal-kick. Ferals on the other hand, had a chance of their own two minutes later, George Crowe's corner in on the right which was curling towards the net at the near post, requiring the keeper to punch it away on his line. At the other end, Brandon tested Fallows once more, a fierce low drive from outside the box was straight at Fallows, who recovered well after a brief error allowing the ball to go through his legs before pouncing on the ball with only a slight part of the ball crossing the line on the half-hour mark. Seven minutes later, Jake Peasgood's good delivery in on the right wing picked out Fred Stewart-Hogg on the left edge of the box to strike at goal but wide of the bottom near corner. The home side then extended their lead from the spot on 38 minutes, after Callum Dove was fouled on the left Jake Peasgood stepped up to dispatch a great spot-kick into the bottom left corner, sending the keeper the wrong way to make it 2-0 Ferals. Brandon then had the final notable opportunity of the half with a low good strike on the left edge of the box as the attempt deflected narrowly wide of the bottom far corner off the visitors' offside No.16 on its way through on 43 minutes, meaning that the clinical Ferals lead 2-0 at the break though Brandon were unlucky to not have possibly a goal or two themselves.

HALF TIME: Moreton Hall Ferals 2-0 Brandon Town Community 

Ferals started the second half in search of a third goal on 47 minutes, as Callum Dongray's free-kick 25-yards out on the left went into the wall, although the goalscorer picked out Jake Peasgood on the left in the area from the rebound- whose header across goal was cleared behind by Brandon with no Feral able to get to it. A minute later, Ferals had a decent chance to add to their lead, as a corner in found Fred Stewart-Hogg close to goal, whose ball across was blocked before a bit of pinball ensued though Brandon cleared the danger. Shortly after though, Ferals almost got their third goal, Jordan Barber raced through down the right wing to square a dangerous ball across the face of goal towards Jake Peasgood who just couldn't get on the end of it. Brandon however should've reduced the arrears on 51 minutes, a ball squared dangerously across on the left in the area found No.16 at the far post but put just wide. The away team then had a superb chance a minute later, as a good cross in on the left wing was headed at goal on the far side in the box whixh boundes straight at Fallows at his left post on his line. The Hall stopper then denied the away side a vital shot at goal on 53 minutes, Fallows off his line well to narrow the angle and deny a man running through at goal, as the tackle resulted in the ball rebounded comfortably wide off the Brandon man. The away side deservedly got on the scoresheet on 55 minutes after Callum Dongray shoved a man from behind on the left, with the penalty being dispatched well by Jacob Bogle into the bottom right corner- sending Fallows the wrong way, 2-1. Three minutes later, Ferals again forced the keeper to be on his toes as a great corner ib on the left in search of Callum Dongray a yard out at the near post needed the keeper to punch the ball away. 

Brandon then released a man through dangerously down the left in the area to square across to a man running in at the far post, though fortunately for the hosts was unable to get a touch to the ball on the hour mark. The visitors then brought a good save out of Aston Fallows on 66 minutes, the good low shot outside the box was heading towards the bottom left corner until Fallows got down well to palm away. Two minutes later, Ferals restored their two goal advantage, an excellent free-kick from Elliott Frost-Palmer curled past the keeper into the top left corner in unstoppable style to make it 3-1 Ferals- matching the result in the corresponding fixture last season. Once more the two teams competed in a very entertaining encounter, as Brandon tested Fallows once more on 77 minutes, as a good shot at the bottom left corner saw the stopper take a good diving catch, with Callum Dove shooting over the bar from the left edge of the box seconds later. 

Ferals went agonisingly close to a fourth goal on 80 minutes, Elliott Frost-Palmer's great ball in on the right towards to Jake Peasgood at the far post from six-yards out, though the latter just missed. Nine minutes from time, Brandon again hit the target from a low free-kick on the left edge of the box but was straight at Fallows down at his bottom far corner. The home side, who with the win go level on points with current leaders Brandon (on goal difference, though with a game in hand) went close to a fourth on 83 minutes, Callum Dove releasing Jake Peasgood through in acres of space down the right, though the latter's attempt went narrowly over the bar, with Fred Stewart-Hogg having a great strike at goal moments later. The midfielder's fierce strike on the left edge of the box was caught well by the diving keeper at his near post. Peasgood then got through on the right close to goal on 84 minutes, as the forward tried his luck at goal but blasted into the sidenetting. Brandon meanwhile found themselves six yards out from goal to poke at goal a minute later but was saved by Fallows. Ferals then should've not hed a fourth goal in the lat minute left of normal time, Fred Stewart-Hogg's shot on the left edge of the box went low but narrowly wide of the bottom near corner. Brandon then had the final chance a minute later, a shot in space on the right edge of the box was blocked, as the Ferals ran out 3-1 winners.

Bromsgrove Sporting v Needham Market 28.9.19

Needham Market pick up a vital three points with a 1-0 away victory at Bromsgrove Sporting. 

Needham had the first chance, Joe Marsden was found in the box close to goal to poke towards the target though the keeper was off his line to smother well in the second minute. Twelve minutes later Needham had a good chance to score, a pass straight to Luke Ingram in space outside the box saw the forward attempt to lob the keeper off his line, but got too much on it as the ball went over the bar. Bromsgrove meanwhile found McDonald on the right in the box but saw his shot blocked on 23 minutes. Two minutes later, Joe Neal tried his luck at goal from 20-yards out on the left edge of the box though the strike was deflected behind the far post for a Needham corner. The following corner was sent in low by Gareth Heath falling to Joe Marsden on the near side in the box though the low strike was deflected wide of the near post. 

Needham then had a great chance on 27 minutes, Jordao Diogo fed Callum Sturgess down the left wing on the overlap, whose first time dangerous cross went over the head of Marsden at the near post almost finding Joe Neal in the centre who just couldn't get a touch to the ball. On the half-hour mark, Bromsgrove got through in the box with space to shoot had it not been for Dan Morphew sliding in vitally to prevent the chance. Bromsgrove went close eight minutes later, McDonald was found inside the box on the right though the shot dipped narrowly wide of the top far corner. The Sporting striker then drew a routine save out of Marcus Garnham on 41 minutes, McDonald's low shot from the left outside the box going straight to the visiting stopper at his near post. A minute later Bromsgrove went close to opening the scoring, Westwood got through in the area only to shoot inches wide of the bottom right corner. The last chance of the half went the way of the hosts, Gregory's low close range shot on the right in the area was saved well by Garnham down at his near post, as both sides went in goalless at the break. 

HALF TIME: Bromsgrove Sporting 0-0 Needham Market 

HT thoughts:

Garnham again excellent keeping Needham in it. Needham had a couple of chances but take the draw at present. Both look fairly decent. Needham defending well. 

The second half began with Luke Ingram being set up on the edge of the box to strike low at goal but straight at the keeper at his bottom left corner on 46 minutes. Two minutes later Suffolk outfit went close, Jordao Diogo's great cross in on the left was dipping over the bar but stayed in play curling round to find Joe Neal at the far post close to goal but headed narrowly over the bar. Bromsgrove then had their first notable chance of the half on 53 minutes, the strike on the left in the area being deflected wide of the far post for a corner, whilst Needham had a shot towards goal five minutes later. Jordao Diogo's low strike on the left edge of the box was going wide of the bottom far corner though the keeper gathered anyway. 

Needham then broke the deadlock in the sixty-eighth minute, Luke Ingram got through in acres of space on the very right side in the box to deliver a great cross to Joseph Marsden a couple of yards out at the far post, the latter's low header went in off the diving keeper's back and over the line, 1-0 Needham. Moments later, a through ball from Needham brought the keeper 20-yards from goal, as the intended recieptent Joe Marsden took the ball past the stranded keeper to advance to a similar position as to where Ingram was shortly before, though this time the attempt was palmed behind by the diving retreating keeper comfortably behind his near post still well off his line, showing great goalkeeping. Needham then had a opportunity on 81 minutes, Gareth Heath on the left wing tried his luck at goal but shot wide of the near post. Two minutes later, Bromsgrove's McDonald tried his luck at goal on the right but saw the shot blocked. At the other end, Needham forward Joe Marsden had a shot 20-yards out on the left but dragged it well wide of the near post on 86 minutes. Seconds after, Sporting's Pykett went for goal outside the box but was well blocked by Kieran Morphew. The last chance of the afternoon fell to Needham, as Gareth Heath was set through on the left edge of the box to shoot at goal but fired over the bar, as Needham took home the points in what was a fairly tight and even encounter.

Goals from Callum Page and Kai Fletcher see Needham Under-18s pick up three points over local rivals Stowmarket Town.

Needham Market Under-18s defeat local rivals Stowmarket Town Under-18s 2-1 in an entertaining clash at Bloomfields.

Needham had multiple great chances first half, though Stowmarket run their luck defending well in numbers, as the away side had the first opportunity. A free-kick in on the right wing was hit low and easy for Owen Elsdon down at his right to save a minute in. Needham went close three minutes later, No.3's fierce volley running into the left edge of the box struck the face of the crossbar before rebounding away. Moments later, Callum Page was found in the box to head at goal on the left but wide of the near post. Needham then found Kai Fletcher through on the right hand side in the box on 6 minutes, as the striker's good low shot went straight at the keeper. The striker was involved seconds later, a dangerous low ball across the face of goal from the left edge of the box almost found Kai Fletcher sliding in at the far post who just couldn't connect. The young Marketmen went close on 7 minutes, the Reds getting through on the left inside the box to strike fiercely at goal as the keeper off his line did well to block, though the flag was up for offside. Kai Fletcher was found through on the left in the box on 11 minutes, a good low shot at the bottom far corner was deflected inches past the bottom far corner. The home side went close once more on 13 minutes, a great strike from 25-yards out rocketed of the top of the crossbar and over for a corner. Moments later, Needham almost broke the deadlock again, Callum Page got through twenty-five yards out to unleash a great strike at the top near corner- although the keeper made a great stop to deflect it over the bar. Stow meanwhile got through on the left byline in the box looking to poke past Elsdon at his near post though the keeper blocked well on 18 minutes.

Nine minutes later, Callum Page then found Kai Fletcher through on the right in the area, as the latter shot low at goal drawing a good block from the diving keeper at his near post. The ball then fell to Needham's number 4 outside the box, wjose shot was cleared away on 27 minutes. Up the other end, Stow tried their luck from the right edge of the box but saw their shot blocked on 28 minutes, as Needham once again went close a minute later. Needham's No.3 was fed through on the left byline in the box, with 2 players in the centre insteads opts to shoot into the sidenetting. Stow then forced a comfortable save out of Elsdon on 32 minutes, No.10's 30-yard strike on the left going straight to the home stopper. Kai Fletcher then go through on the left in the box for Needham two minutes later, with his latest shot at the near post deflected behind by a defender. Then on 37 minutes, Stow almost scored against the run of play, as a free-kick on the left was well hit at goal but flew just over thectop near corner. Needham responded by going close themselves a minute later, Callum Page hitting a great low strike on the right edge of the box, drawing the keeper to dive down and block well. Needham then found Kai Fletcher on the left soon after, though the forward could only head wide off the bottom near corner. Callum Page almost gave the hosts the lead on 39 minutes, the forward weaving through well to the right edge of the box to fire a good low strike inches past the bottom far corner. On 40 minutes the crossbar came between Needham and a deserved goal, as a great strike on the left edge of the box deflected slightly off the top right corner of the crossbar on its way over for a goalkick. Needham had another chance a minute later, Kai Fletcher was found on the right in the box to make space for the shot with a defender tightly pressing the Needham forward got the shot off, but deflected off the Stow man and behind the bottom near corner for a Needham corner. Needham then went close on 42 minutes, No.10 again denied by the bar, as the great strike on the left edge of the box rebounded off the face of the bar and back into play. Stow meanwhile had the final chance of the half, as a shot on the right esge of the box was blocked, as both sides went in goalless at the interval with Needham heavily unfortunate not to be infront.

HALF TIME: Needham Market Under-18s 0-0 Stowmarket Town Under-18s

Needham began the second half in the same vein, a great corner in on the left was headed at goal from close range at the far post but wide of the botton left corner on 48 minutes. Needham went close again a minute later, Kai Fletcher was set through on the right edge of the box to spin his defender well to fire a great strike at the bottom far corner, though the keeper dived down well to palm behind. Needham continued to press for a goal on 50 minutes, Callum Page through on the left byline close to goal, who was looking to set up the elusive goal, but the keeper blocked behind well with a great save at his near post. Four minutes later, Stow's corner in on the right found a head at the far post whose attempt went low and straight at Elsdon at his far post, albeit Needham were awarded a free-kick. Needham had another excellent chance on 58 minutes, Callum Page's good strike on the right edge of the box was spilled by the keeper at his chest though nobody was around to take advantage. Stow then took the lead against the run of play on 62 minutes, the visitors' Charles Lockwood in space on the left edge of the box to fire a great powerful strike past Elsdon into the roof of the midfle of the net, 0-1 Stowmarket. Needham though drew level a minute later, Callum Page got through on the edge of the box to arrow a great low strike into the bottom right corner, 1-1. The hosts then began to search for a second goal, as the hosts shot on the left in the area was blocked on 68 minutes.

Needham then went close once again on 83 minutes, a great ball through to Callum Page in the box saw the forward's low shot deflected behind into the sidenetting at the near post. A minute later, Needham almost took the lead, a great strike 20-yards out on the right forced the keeper to beat away at the near post, as a Needham cross in on the right soon after was headed over soon after. With 2 minutes remaining, the Stow keeper again denied Needham, Callum Page raced through on the right in the box to shot well at the near post though the keeper narrowed the angle well to block. Needham though did score a minute later, Page setting substitute Konnor Fletcher through to finish well into the bottom left corner from close range, 2-1 Needham. The latter almost made it 3-1 on 90+1 minutes, after being released in space on the left in the area goalscorer Fletcher struck a great strike at the top far corner, bringing a superb save out off the keeper who dived up to palm away. Two minutes later, Stowmarket hit a dangerous low ball in from the left finding a man close to goal at the back post to shoot low at goal but was vitally saved by the diving Elsdon as Needham took the spoils in a highly entertaining encounter.

Bury Town Under-18s beat Histon Under-18s 4-1 at Denny Bros Ram Meadow Stadium as the hosts avenged a 3-2 away defeat with an excellent performance.

Bury took the lead two minutes in as Aidan Browne’s superb low free-kick on the left edge of the box curled round the wall and past the keeper into the bottom right corner, 1-0 Bury. Histon meanwhile found Creek through upfield who cut through onto the left hand side in the box, beating his defender who deflected his strike wide of the near post after 3 minutes. Carter’s free-kick from range on the right then went over the top near corner 6 minutes later. Aidan Browne meanwhile, tried his luck again from another free-kick, this time near the touch line out on the left wing on 16 minutes, again the low set-piece was creeping inside the near post but bounced straight up into the keeper’s chest. Bury then went close on 17 minutes, as a good through-ball released Amin Mohammed through down the left who beat the keeper outside the box, but the touch was too much, forcing him wide on the byline as he did well to keep the ball in play but with no support Histon cleared the danger. The visitors then had a low shot on the right two minutes later, but hit low and wide of the near post. Bury however went close again on 21 minutes, a deep free-kick from Callum Steed on the right was dangerously swung into the box as the keeper came off his line to punch, only as far as Browne on the left from close range, with the goal practically gaping the defender vitally intercepted and cleared. Bury went agonisingly close to a second goal a minute later, Jack Turner was fed in space on the right in the box, close to goal, though the good strike went narrowly wide of the top near corner. 

Bury did double their lead on 24 minutes, a great ball from Aidan Browne released Finlay Plant through in acres of space down the right wing to square on a plate to Amin Mohammed running in at the far post in the six yard box to instinctively tap-in to the left corner, 2-0 Bury. Histon then tried their luck at goal on 31 minutes, though the attempt was deflected comfortably wide of the far, right, corner. The Stutes then had another go at goal three minutes later from the right outside the box, but fired wide of the far post. Bates was next to try his luck for the away side, as the shot from the right edge of the box was fired narrowly over the top right corner on 37 minutes. The Blues on other hand saw Callum Steed’s great ball in from a free-kick on the halfway line find Andrew Conroy with his back to goal outside the six yard box on the left hand side in the box, as the defender tried an overhead kick at goal, narrowly sending the ball over the bar on 44 minutes. The latter then got on the end of another Bury free-kick two minutes later, this time Keaton Cowling’s free-kick in from distance out on the left wing found Conroy close to goal at the far post, this time though he flicked his header wide of the right post as Bury deservedly went into the break 2-0 up, having made their good attacking play count.

HALF TIME: Bury Town Under-18s 2-0 Histon Under-18s

The second half saw Histon come out and attack for a fair amount of the second half, starting with Smalls’ free-kick on the right edge of the box being blocked by the Bury wall on 48 minutes. Histon then forced Foreman to put behind his far post a minute later, as a ball in from the right edge of the box was helped on its way behind by the Bury stopper at his far post. Smalls then had a low strike on the left 25-yards at goal saved comfortably by Foreman, as the shot went straight to the keeper at his near post on 51 minutes. Histon then forced Foreman to be on his toes as a ball in on the right was creeping in under the bar though Foreman palmed the ball away well on his goal-line, as Bury cleared the immediate danger on 54 minutes. Histon then had a low free-kick on the left edge of the box a minute later, but was hit low and easy for Foreman at his far post, with the away side having a shot from a similar area well blocked on 58 minutes. Histon meanwhile forced some resolute defending from Bury to remain two goals ahead a minute later, as a strike on the right was denied by the home backline, falling to an umarked Histon man on the left in the box to cull a low well hit strike towards the bottom far corner, drawing a good diving save from Foreman to palm away. Histon then arguably should’ve pulled a goal back on 61 minutes, Mangar was set through of acres of space inside the Bury penalty area but shot low and wide of the bottom far corner. Five minutes later, the away side then delivered a low ball in on the right, though a Histon man turned the ball wide of the near post from close range. 

Back came Bury though, as Andrew Conroy’s shot from 20-yards out was blocked on 69 minutes, whilst Aidan Browne’s free-kick on the left edge of the box met the same fate. Browne though got the rebound to find Kyran Cooper through in the box to square across although the defender cleared the ball away on 71 minutes. Histon however pulled a goal back on 77 minutes, Medd’s free-kick out on the right wing was headed away partially by a Bury defender as Histon headed back into the box, finding a Histon man on the left to head into the bottom right corner, 2-1. A minute later, Histon then shot low and just wide of the right post as Bury won a penalty on 79 minutes when Amin Mohammed was sent down to the ground from behind on the left. Up stepped the forward to step up and dispatch his second goal of the evening well into the bottom right corner, sending the keeper comfortably the wrong way, 3-1 Bury.  Bury then added a fourth goal on 87 minutes, a good deep free-kick from Callum Steed on the right of the halfway line in towards nobody saw the keeper come off his line and punch the ball straight at Amin Mohammed in acres of space, who reacted well to instantly loop a superb header under the crossbar and into the empty net for another hat-trick for the Bury striker, 4-1 Blues. Ethan Mills was then found on the left edge of the box two minutes into added time but saw his shot blocked, as Finlay Bonas had the final shot of the game a minute later. Bonas was fed through on the right close to goal, the shot though was beaten away by the keeper at his near post, as Bury took a deserved three points as a superb performance from the hosts and three sin bins for the opposition ended in a 4-1 home win.

Bury Town Women rise up to third in the table following a 4-3 victory over Brantham Athletic Ladies- now sitting seventh- at Denny Bros Ram Meadow Stadium.

Going into the game, Bury sat 4th after 2 wins from 2, with Brantham behind in fifth having won 1 and lost the other two from their three league games. Bury started well going close on 2 minutes, number 7 in space 20-yards out to hit a great strike at the top left corner creeping into the goal though the keeper stuck a good hand out to palm it behind. The hosts almost took the lead a minute later, as great play from Bury saw the hosts get through on the right from close range as No.6's shot in space went wide of the top right corner. Five minutes in, Bury's star play wearing the number 10 shirt ran through to the right edge of the box, as the forward sent a good low ball across the face of goal in search of the Blues' No.9 sliding in at the far post just couldn't reach as the ball went narrowly past the post. Two minutes later, a good Bury free-kick in on the right from 20-yards was headed at goal at the near post from close range, but was blocked as Brantham just managed to clear with the away side's shot on the left in the box went just wide of the bottom right corner. On 9 minutes Bury had a chance to take the lead as number 10 ran through well past the defence onto a great through-ball onto the right hand side in the box as the good low shot at the bottom near corner was kicked away by the keeper, with Brantham's opposite number having a shot from 18-yards out on the left but was well blocked, as the game began lively and continued to be throughout. Bury went close once more on 10 minutes, No.5's great cross in from the right took the defence out of the equation finding No.9 a few yards out at the far post to poke well towards goal but was blocked well by the keeper. Bury's No.5 then had a go at goal on 12 minutes, striking at goal from 25-yards as the good attempt went straight at the keeper.

Brantham though took the lead on 13 minutes, as Emmi Bennett's great ball in on the right found Danielle Harvey a yard out at the far post, with the goal gaping to chest the ball well to hit a great powerful volley into the roof of the net, 0-1 Brantham. Bury responded a minute later, Bury's shot on the edge of box going straight at the keeper, with the hosts equalising on 18 minutes after good play from Bury. A great free-kick on the right edge of the box curled at the top near corner, though the keeper did well to palm away as the rebound shot from close range was blocked well by the keeper as the follow up fell to a Bury player who was in space with time to finish into the bottom left corner, 1-1. Brantham goalscorer Harvey had another shot at goal on 21 minutes, the shot on the right from close range going just wide of the bottom far corner, as the away side went for goal from distance two minutes later- curling and dipping over the Bury crossbar. Bury then had a great chsnce on 34 minutes as a good ball in on the right saw the Blues retain possession in the box although unable to get a shot off inside the six yard box, with the ball eventually falling to Bury on the right edge of the box, where the shot was fired over the bar. Brantham however went into the interval with their lead restored, Shannon Giles' good ball in on the right wing found Danielle Harvey unmarked at the bsck post, similar to the first goal as the latter finished well with her left foot finding the top right corner, 1-2 Brantham.

HALF TIME: Bury Town Women 1-2 Brantham Athletic Ladies

Bury started the second half getting through down the centre a minute after the restart, as the low shot went straight st the keeper, before the Blues did the same again on 47 minutes. Then on 49 minutes, Bury's No.9 hit a low shot at goal from 20-yards out on the lefr but again straight at the keeper. Bury then went close seconds later, the home side hitting the post as the ball rebounded back into play. Brantham meanwhile had a shot from close range on the left on 50 minutes only to shoot over the bar. A minute later, Bury drew level for the second time in the afternoon in superb style, as a great strike by an unmarked Bury player from 25-yards out on the left unleashed a superb strike into the top right corner, 2-2. Bury then fed No.9 on the edge of the box to poke at goal but was low and straight at the keeper, still 2-2 with both sides hunting the all important fifth goal with 29 minutes remaining. On 64 minutes Bury then looked to feed No.6 through on the left edge of the box thanks to a good ball, as the Bury player could only divert the ball low and straight at the keeper at her near post, as Bury then shot narrowly wide of the top left corner moments later.

Bury then had a great chance on 67 minutes, as the hosts' shot from close range on the right towards the top near corner forced the keeper to palm behind well, as the resulting low corner found No.10 at the near post whose low shot was deflected and easily cleared a minute later. Bury then took the lead for the first time on 75 minutes, a great ball released No.10 through past the defende into the right in the area as the forward's great strike at the top far corner was palmed away by the keeper on a plate to No.9 running in six-yards out to nod home into the empty middle left corner, 3-2 Bury. Two minutes later, Bury doubled their lead, a great strike from 20-yards out on the left rocketted in off the underside of the crossbar, hit so powerful the ball bounced back off the same part of the goal frame and even further over the line, 4-2 Bury. Brantham though would not give in, as the visitors' free-kick on the right edge of the box went just over the top near corner on 78 minutes. Brantham then pulled a goal back with 10 minutes left to play, Shannon Giles finding Danielle Harvey on the left byline in the box who lashed a superb strike home into the roof of the net from a tight angle to complete her hat-trick, 4-3. A tense last ten minutes ensued, as Brantham went close to snatching a late and fair point on 90+1 minutes, the away side hitting a great strike from 25-yards out on the left narrowly over the crossbar. Brantham then had a chance three minutes later, hitting a free-kick on the left wing just wide of the near post. Bury taking the spoils of what was an end-to-end great contest, in which was a great advert for Womens football.

Moreton Hall Ferals move up to second in Division One of the Premier Logos Bury & District Sunday Football League thanks to a good 1-3 win away at Howards. 

Ferals went close on 2 minutes, Kieran Twinn curling a shot in acres of space on the right edge of the box, dipping onto the top right of the bar and back into play. Two minutes later, Howards swung a free-kick in on the left from 40-yards out, finding No.4 at the far post, as the skipper headed wide of the right post from close range. Ferals at the opposite end crossed a ball in on the right on 6 minutes, finding Charlie Glover close to goal at the near post only to head straight at the keeper, whilst Howards' Mitchell Bryant shot at goal on the left moments later but hit wide of the near post. Ferals then had a free-kick on the right edge of the box on 13 minutes, Callum Dongray curling and the set-piece over the top left corner. A minute later, Callum Dove was then found on the right edge of the box but the shot was blocked. Ferals then had a half-chance on 15 minutes, Charlie Glover's shot on the edge of the box was blocked, as the rebound fell to Fred Stewart-Hogg who fired his shot well over the bar. Howards then forced a fairly routine stop out of Aston Fallows on 19 minutes, as the hosts free-kick on the edge of the box was hit low and round the wall but went straight at the Ferals stopper who spilled the ball but gathered the loose ball. Three minutes later, Howards striker Mitchell Bryant had a shot at goal from the right edge of the box but was blocked well by Charlie Larter. The Ferals captain then sliced a volley wide of the right post from 25-yards out on 23 minutes. 

Ferals then broke the deadlock deservedly on 27 minutes, Elliott Frost-Palmer's corner on the left went through to an unmarked Callum Dongray 8-yards out to first time dispatch a smart finish over the keeper and into the bottom left corner, 0-1 Moreton Hall Ferals. Ferals went close to doubling their lead on the hslf-hour mark, Kieron Twinn got theough well after showing great skill to spin past the defender on the right wing to cross into the box but was missed by a Ferals man in the centre as the keeper also missed it as the ball went for a throw-in. Ferals then had another opportunity on 31 minutes as Callum Dove hit a shot from the right edge of the box over the bar. Two minutes later, Howards' No.8 got to the left edge of the box to shoot at goal, as George Palmer made the block. Ferals went close to a second goal ten minutes before the interval, Charlie Glover got through well in the box before doing well to tussel with the defender to keep possession as the winger's low shot from close range went just wide of the bottom far corner. Howards though had the last shot of the opening half, Mitchell Bryant's low shot on the right edge of the box went straight to Aston Fallows at his near post, as Ferals went into the break a goal to the good. 

HALF TIME: Howards 0-1 Moreton Hall Ferals

Ferals began the second half with Callum Dove shooting at goal on the left edge of the box but saw his shot blocked on 47 minutes. Cameron Nicholls meanwhile got through down to the right edge of the box but shot well wide on 48 minutes. Two minutes later though the striler almost doubled Ferals' lead, Cameron Nicholls got in space on the right hand side in the box to hit a good low strike towards the bottom near corner, thpugh the keeper made a good save to keep it out. Howards then captialised on Ferals' missed chances, equalising on 52 minutes, Howards' No.8 got through on the right hand side in the box to cutback to Harry Moore close to goal on the left, the midfielder's good low finish deflected off the Ferals defender into the bottom left corner, 1-1. Howards then had a great chance on 54 minutes, Mitchell Bryant was set through on goal with just keeper Aston Fallows to beat, though shot straight at the keeper from 25-yards out. Ferals then had appeals for a penalty waved away on 55 minutes, Callum Dove was shoved to the ground on the left but was waved away by the referee.  Two minutes later, Cameron Nicholls had another great chance on the right in the box to shot low and wide at the near post. On the hour mark, Callum Dove did well to stay on his line but saw his shot on the left edge of the box go over the top far corner.

With 25 minutes remaining, Nicholls then had another opportunity, this time though well wide of the bottom left corner from 25-yards out. Ferals however regained the lead on 67 minutes as a good ball out to Jake Peasgood on the right wing saw the forward deliver a great ball into the centre, where Jordan Asker at the far post dispatched a great header down into the ground bouncing into the top right corner, 1-2 Ferals. Three minutes later, Ferals went close again as Jake Peasgood in on the right hand side of the Howards area squared across to Kieran Twinn at the near post who just couldn't covert. On 73 minutes, a Howards corner on the left picked out Mitchell Bryant at the far post to head towards the top corner but straight at Fallows. Four minutes later though Fallows was forced into a superb save, as a good Howards strike on the right edge of the box towards the far corner saw the Ferals stopper dive to his right at waist height to take a great catch. With ten minutes to go, Bryant's latest attempt at goal on the right went low and straight at Fallows at his near post. Ferals midfielder Fred Stewart-Hogg went close to extending his side's lead, skipping through onto the left edge of the box to shoot low at the bottom far corner but was deflected just wide for a corner on 84 minutes. A minute later however, Ferals had a great chance as a fierce shot on the left edge of the box went wide of the top far corner. 

The away side then went close on 87 minutes, Kieran Twinn ran downfield well as the ball fell to Elliott Frost-Palmer on the left edge of the box who then fed Callum Dove unmarked on the right hand side in the box whose low shot at the near post was saved by the keeper's feet. Ferals however shot low and wide of the bottom left corner from the follow up. Ferals made the game safe on 88 minutes, Kieran Twinn on the roght edge of the box threading a great ball to Jake Peasgood in acres of space in the left hand side in the box, the latter's first time great instinctive finish finding the bottom right corner to make it 1-3 Ferals. On the stroke of full-time, Mitchell Bryant had a shot on the left from 25-yards out but wide of the bottom near corner as Fallows gathered anyway, Ferals going onto take the spoils, maintaining their 100% league record after 2 games.

Well worked goals from Callum Page (brace), Konnor Fletcher (brace) and Tommy Northwood see Thurlow Nunn First Division North hosts beat SIL Senior Division outfit Leiston St. Margarets

Needham Market Reserves cruise through to the second round of the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup with a comfortable 5-0 home win over Leiston St. Margrets.

The higher league Reds had a chsnce just two minutes in, Thomas Fitzgerald through on the right in the box only to fire his shot towards the top corner into the sidenetting at the near post. Needham then went close on 9 minutes, Pharrell Wright got through dangerously down the left wing to square across the box just evading Callum Page running in as the keeper intercepted. The young Marketmen went close again two minutes later, as great play play from Needham saw a great throughball by Callum Page unlocking the defence found Wright running in who just beat the defender to it from close range to poke at the bottom near left corner, though the keeper just got down to gather. Needham, who ran riot first half, bossing the play and penning Leiston in virtually the whole half, had a great chance on 15 minutes, Callum Page was set through in the box but saw his low shot blocked. The forward was involved a minute later as Needham once more went close, Page this time was set through on the right edge of the box to travel into the box to shoot low at the bottom far corner, the keeper however dived down well to make the catch. Needham then had two penalty appeals dismissed in the space of a minute, the first on 19 minutes saw Callum Page being potentially taken out in the box, with the second a minute after seeing a Leiston defender jump into the back of Pharrell Wright on the left near the byline, sending the latter tumbling but again the referee wasn't convinced.

Needham did go deservedly infront on 23 minutes, the ball falling perfectly for Connor Fletcher running into the right edge of the box to unleash a beauty, first time, unleashing a cracking volley that arrowed past the rooted keeper and into the bottom left corner, 1-0 Needham. Three minutes later Needham struck again, Konnor Fletcher ran upfield playing a neat one-two with Callum Page as the former advanced onto into the right hand side in the box to finish superbly into the bottom right corner, 2-0 Needham. Callum Page then added to the scoresheet on 28 minutes, with yet another well worked goal. This time the forward was fouled right on the very edge of the box to step up himself and send a great curling a superb free-kick over the wall and dipping into the bottom left corner, via the inside of the near post, 3-0 Needham. The Reds almost made it four on the half-hour mark, as a low corner in on the left was dummied well by two Needham players leaving it nicely for Williams to fire well over the bar from the right edge of the box, with the home side then shooting low and wide of the bottom right corner on 31 minutes. Callum Page then tried his luck at goal again on 32 minutes, the goalscorer's great low shot unmarked 30-yards out was saved well by the keeper at his near post. Page was involved again a minute later, this time running through to the right edge of the box as Jakkson blocked the shot. Seconds later, Needham went close once more, Konnor Fletcher made a good run upfield to play another quick one-two with Page to get through onto the right hand side in the area, this time though the low shot at the bottom far corner beat the keeper but not the post, rebounding back off the inside of the woodwork. The loose ball fell to Kaleb Palmer close to goal whose shot was blocked as the Leiston defence cleared. Ten minutes before half-time, Evan Collard tried his luck with a great strike on the right 20-yards out hitting just wide of the top right corner, another close call. Needham were unlucky not to be further ahead on 36 minutes, as great play from the young Marketmen saw Evan Collard play a good one-two with Callum Page to run through into the box before the former drew a good save out of the keeper, palming away down to his right as the Needham player ran onto reach the loose ball with goal open but was tripped by the keeper's glove- though no foul was given. Needham continued to go close to a fourth goal, the latest coming on 38 minutes, Williams' great cross in on the left wing found Konnor Fletcher unmarked at the far post who looped a header at goal from close range but over the top near corner. Needham again almost scored a minute later, a great corner in on the left found Fitzgerald at the far post whose free header at the bottom left corner was blocked off the line by a defender. Needham did add a fourth however on 41 minutes, great run from Callum Page down the left wing saw the playmaker square a great ball across to Konnor Fletcher eight yards out at the far post leaving the scorer with a easy first time tap in to the bottom right corner, his hat-trick and Needham's fourth. Collard then weaved through to the edge of the box well to make room to shoot, but was blocked by the defender on 45 minutes. Callum Page notched his second of the game with another fantastic free-kick on the left edge of the box a minute into stoppage time, curling a outstanding set-piece into the top right corner, 5-0 Needham.


HALF TIME: Needham Market Reserves 5-0 Leiston St. Margrets

HT thoughts: Needham running riot, Callum Page heart of most it all in Red out there superb, Leiston can't cope both- as centrebacks 5 & 6 can only foul Callum Page, and are lucky to not be booked. Quality goals from Needham, very much deserve lead.

The second half saw Needham once more controll proceedings though, overplaying the ball a bit the more the half went on, although the Reds went close two minutes afrer the restart. Callum Page on the right edge of the box teed up Konnor Fletcher running into the area to hit a good low shot at the bottom far corner, as the keeper dived down well to tip behind. Needham continued to have all of the major clear cut chances, Evan Collard having a half chance on 49 minutes, dragging a low strike from 35-yards out wide of the bottom left corner. Two minutes later, the keeper denied Needham from adding a sixth goal as Thomas Fitzgerald was released through well onto the left hand side in the box to hit a good strike at the top near corber, matched by the keeper who dived up well to palm behind. The resulting corner meanwhile saw the keeper save an attempt well at his near post on 52 minutes. Leiston then had a rare shot at goal on 55 minutes, Knight's fierce 20-yard strike was blocked well by a defender, falling to Blackhouse on the left a few yards further out, who sliced his fierce volley comfortably wide of the top right corner.

Callum Page then went close to adding to his side's strong lead on 57 minutes, the Man Of The Match got through well on the left byline in the area to flash a ball dangerously across the face of goal and just wide of the bottom far corner. Good play from Needham saw Kai Fletcher with space to shoot from 20-yards out on the right on 64 minutes, though the shot was low at straight at the keeper at his bottom far corner. Leiston briefly thought they'd broken Needham's clean sheet as a ball in from long range on the right found Jakkson unmarked at the far post to tap home from close range, but was ruled out for offside. With five minutes to go, Needham keeper Robert Weller was forced into the only save of the afternoon, albeit routine as Backhouse's low shot on the left edge of the box going straight into Weller's chest. Leiston then had the final shot of the cup-tie, as the SIL Senior Division side's full-back Dennis go for goal from the edge of the area but wide of the top right corner. Needham comfortably running out the victors, safely through to round 2 thanks to five great goals and a superb performance.

Bury Town Under-18s beat Wisbech St. Mary 5-2 to progress onto the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup. 

Wisbech though had the opening chance two minutes in, as the away side’s free-kick into the box from the left wing found the head of Barnes who headed wide of the bottom near corner. Wisbech then drew the first save of the game n 7 minutes, Barnes ran through down the right wing to the corner edge of the box to unleash a shot at the top near corner as Liam Foreman produced a good stop to parry over the bar. The resulting corner on the left a minute later meanwhile fell to Wright on the left edge of the box who fired low at goal but was cleared away by a Bury defender. Bury then went close on 9 minutes, Amin Mohammed was fed through on the right hand side in the box travelling close to goal to shoot low at goal but was blocked by a defender at the near post with the keeper down committed. Bury had a chance the following minute, an attempt on the left was looped towards goal by a Bury head but went over the top near corner from far out. Angus Mills was soon after found outside the box to lay possession off to Callum Steed on the right edge of the box to shoot low at goal towards the near corner as Bishop parried out to gather the loose ball with ease on 11 minutes, before Bury then shot wide of the left post a minute later. On 13 minutes Bury went close to taking the lead, as Callum Steed’s free-kick from long range on the left wing dipped dangerously towards the top near corner forcing a Bishop to palm upwards into the air as the ball then dropped on the goal-line before bouncing away to safety. Quarter of an hour in, Bury had a shot on the right only to hit just wide of the top right corner, with Bury going close on 17 minutes, a corner in on the right found Hari Jolland unmarked in the area in acres of space to head towards the bottom right corner as Wisbech blocked as far as Angus Mills. The attacker stood close to goal at the right post but saw his shot at the aforementioned post blocked. 

Bury then had a chance to score on 25 minutes, Will Allison weaved last a couple of defenders well to open the opportunity to try his luck from 25-yards out on the right, to poke a shot at the top near corner but straight at Bishop in the Wisbech goal. Moments later, Bury were awarded a penalty, as Amin Mohammed was brought down on the left, up stepped the striker to bury the spot-kick into the bottom left corner, sending Bishop the wrong way for advantage Bury, 1-0 Bury on 26 minutes. Bury went close to adding to their lead just two minutes later, Amin Mohammed is found on the left in the box with his back to goal doing superbly well to spin his defender and advance into the centre, with the low shot at the near post being narrowly deflected past the post. Bury went close once more on 31 minutes, Angus Mills best the keeper to possession on the left byline in the area to square across to Amin Mohammed six yards out, whose chance to shoot with his back to goal was thwarted as the home players thought a defender had toggled him back- though the referee waved away the appeals. The young Blues though doubled their advantage on 32 minutes, Angus Mills released Finlay Plant through one on one with the keeper from a great through-ball past the defence, the latter finishing off with ease into the bottom right corner via the right post, 2-0 Bury. A good move from Wisbech then saw the visitors go close on 34 minutes, as a low cross in on the left wing found Barnes 12-yards from goal to shoot low and first time at the bottom far corner, just beating the post. A minute later, the ball then fell to Sakavicius on the left edge of the box to chest the ball down and half-volley at goal but fiercely fire over the crossbar. Wisbech then had a great chance on 38 minutes, Barnes through on the right in the box to poke across to Wright eight yards out at the near post but sliced his shot well wide swerving to the left and out for a throw-in to Bury. A good ball over the Bury defence then released Wright through in the box on the left 7-yards out, beating Foreman, who had came off his line, to the ball but first his fierce first time volley comfortably over the bar on 40 minutes. 

Bury took advantage, extending their lead two minutes later, a great through-ball set Amin Mohammed through down the right wing and into the box on the same side as the striker picked up his second goal, shooting past the keeper with ease into the bottom near corner from close range, 3-0 Bury. On the stroke of half-time the home side had another chance, Callum Steed on the right edge of the box completed his part of a one-two with Amin Mohammed, laying the ball off to the striker 20-yards out, the latter’s low strike at the near post however was easy for Bishop. A minute into stoppage time, Wisbech tried their luck from long range on the left but hit well over the bar from the final action of the opening 45 minutes, Bury going into the interval 3 goals to the good. 

HALF TIME: Bury Town Under-18s 3-0 Wisbech St. Mary Under-18s

The second half began with a Bury going close on 47 minutes, Angus Mills was set haring through down the right wing to get into the same side of the Wisbech area with the shot on opts to unselfishly square to Amin Mohammed six yards out at the left post, who shoots first time at the bottom right corner but was blocked behind for a Bury corner. Two minutes later, Mills was then set legging it through down the right after a great ball over the top, the winger best Bishop who had advanced well out off his area as the Bury man shot low at the open goal from an acute angle but narrowly wide of the bottom right corner from distance, great play from Bury. A Bury ball in on 51 minutes then fell to Will Allison in acres of space on the left from 10-yards out to shoot at the near post but straight at Bishop. Bury went close again on 52 minutes, Callum Steed’s good ball in from the right wing found a Blue head leaping highest at the far post whistling just past the bottom right corner. Wisbech pulled a goal back a minute later, a corner on the right found Carter unmarked in the box to head home into the centre of the net, via the bottom of the right post, 3-1. Bury went close on the hour mark, as a dangerous cut back across the area from the left was looking for Mohammed, instead falling to Callum a Steed on the right edge of the box who played a low dangerous and inviting ball on a plate across to the left post as Amin Mohammed ran into a yard out but just couldn’t reach and divert home, as the ball went just wide. 

On 61 minutes Bury went close once more, Mohammed through on the right in the box shot low at the bottom left corner in acres of space, though Bishop got down well to palm away well. At the other end, Day’s long range free-kick out on the left wing curled and dipped dangerously towards the top far corner, with Foreman watching the ball all the way over his crossbar on 62 minutes. Six minutes later, Bury were awarded their second penalty of the game, a fantastic through-ball looked to release Amin Mohammed through one-on-one, as Bishop rushed out clattering into the striker sending him down to the ground, with a yellow card adding to the keeper’s woes. Up stepped Mohammed, dispatching the spot-kick into the bottom right corner for his hat-trick, underneath the keeper who went the right way but had enough power to find the bottom right corner, 4-1 Bury with 21 minutes left to play. Foreman was then forced into a good save down at his left on 71 minutes, as Bury went agonisingly close on 75 minutes, Callum Steed’s great ball in from the right wing found a Bury head at the near post but headed just wide of the right post. Moments later it was high-fives for Bury, a extremely superb ball by Kyran Cooper curled perfectly round the defence directly to Amin Mohammed on the left 7-yards out, who barely moved but to first time swing a fierce low cracking volley into the bottom centre of the net, beating the keeper all ends up, 5-1 Bury. 

Wisbech pulled a second goal back however on 79 minutes, the visitors firing low into the bottom near corner from the left edge of the box, 5-2. On 84 minutes Wisbech went close to further denting Bury’s lead, a low corner in on the left was met well by a Wisbech player at the near post six yards out whose instinctive first time low shot went wide of the near post. At the other end with just 5 minutes remaining, Bury dangerously got through to he right byline in the box, as a defender smacked low and just pasted his own bottom right corner, facing his own goal down the Bury right. On 90 minutes, Bury had their latest close chance, Ben Lyddiatt curled a cracking strike towards the top left corner but was saved by Bishop. Moments after meanwhile, Angus Mills was released in acres of space through on the left hand side in the box to shoot low at the bottom far corner but was vitally palmed just wide by Bishop. A minute into stoppage time, the hosts almost scored again, a fierce strike from the right edge of the box was deflected wide. Wisbech then had the final chance of the evening, smacking a free-kick from the right edge of the box over the top far corner, as Bury went through in the FA Youth Cup after running out 5-2 victors.
