Bury United v AFC Dragonfly | 24.09.2023 Premier Logos Bury District Sunday Football League Division three Hardwick Heath

Bury United sit third - separated from top spot by goal difference - in the Premier Logos Bury + District Sunday Football League Division Two table, following a third win from as many games following a 6-3 win over AFC Dragonfly at Hardwick Heath.

While United led 5-0 at the interval, Dragonfly started both halves well and hit back twice in the 54th minute, and again on 66 minutes, to quickly reduce the deficit to 5-3 until United made the points safe with a 78th minute goal.

Dragonfly had the first chance on 8 minutes as Marks' strike from the right-hand edge of the box went just wide of the bottom far corner, while the away side saw a great curling strike from 30-yards out go just past the top right-hand, far, corner a minute later.

Dragonfly meanwhile went close to an early breakthrough on 13 minutes, a left wing long throw was misjudged by the keeper, finding Marks whose shot from point blank range was blocked well off the line, before the rebound strike from point blank range was also blocked away.

At the other end, United began to grow into the game and looked the better side after breaking the deadlock, before that though Tom Halliday drove through down the left wing before whipping a great low through-ball towards Harry Brown who was beaten to it by the goalkeeper, who advanced off his line well to gather possession first after 14 minutes.

United then broke the deadlock on 16 minutes as captain Sam Goddard's free-kick just inside the opposition's half was swung cleverly to Jack Phillips open on the right-hand side of the box, whose header across goal was slid in by Callum Goddard from point blank range at the far post, 1-0 United. 

United had a good chance to add to their lead four minutes later as Harvey Francis' great right wing cross was shot just over the top near corner by Charlie Steedman.

Brilliant defending from Declan Walsh denied Dragonfly an effort at goal on 21 minutes, a surging run down the right wing saw the away side get into a dangerous area until the full-back tracked back well to execute a perfectly sliding challenge to win back possession.

The home side meanwhile doubled their lead with a great finish on the half-hour mark, Jack Yallop smartly pounced on the loose ball on the right-hand side of the box before arching his run past the defender onto the byline and cutting a great ball back to Harry Brown, in space from close range, whose first time powerfully poked shot arrowed into the top left-hand corner, 2-0 United. 

It was almost 3-0 to United four minutes later, another great run from Yallop saw the winger thread Harry Brown breaking through into space onto the right-hand byline, the forward's low good squared ball on a plate for George Corrie - arriving into the six yard box - however saw the latter shoot, first time, agonizingly just wide of the top right-hand corner.

Another well worked move did see Corrie extend United's lead to 3-0 on 37 minutes, a great defence splitting pass released the forward one on one with the onrushing goalkeeper, onto the left-hand side, who finished smartly into the bottom right-hand corner.

In quickfire fashion it was swiftly 4-0 just five minutes later, the ball fell to Jack Phillips in acres of space on the left-hand edge of the box who rifled home a great low volleyed strike into the bottom left-hand corner. 

Brown nearly added a fifth goal for United on 44 minutes, the striker picked up possession well on the left-hand edge of the box before unleashing a great strike on the turn just wide off the outside base of the near post for a goal-kick.

Brown did net his second of the match, and his side's fifth goal, though in the third minute of first half stoppage time after another well worked goal. Tom Halliday's exquisite left wing free-kick was swung brilliantly to Brown unmarked at the far post to sidefoot home a neat volleyed first time effort into the bottom left-hand corner, 5-0 United. 

Brown went close to his hat-trick just a minute later, the forward beat the onrushing goalkeeper to a long ball onto the right-hand side of the box whose great cross towards fellow goalscorer Corrie - arriving towards the far post - albeit for good defending to deny a shot at the vacant net. 

A great strike on the spin from Halliday went just wide into the bottom near, right-hand, side-netting with the last kick of the half as referee Paul Fuller drew a good half from the home side to a close. 

While it was Dragonfly who started the better of the two sides in the second half, it was the home side who had the first two chances. The first saw a great low ball wrapped round the defence to thread Corrie free down the wing, whose great low ball wrapped into the box towards Brown was intercepted well by the onrushing 'keeper, to gather possession on 46 minutes.

Four minutes later, great pressure from Brown rushed a pass back to the goalkeeper before deflecting the resulting clearance to the onrushing Corrie whose good strike on the ;eft-hand edge of the box went over the top far corner. 

Dragonfly on the other hand quickly hit back with two goals in the same minute on 54 minutes, a right wing throw found Dale Williams on the right-hand side inside the box who then finished well into the bottom far corner, before Josh Marks drew another goal back straight from the restart, with a great strike finding the roof of the net from distance, 5-2 to United.

United then looked to restore their four goal advantage on 61 minutes, as the captain's free-kick from 30-yards out was swung well to Jack Phillips at the far post whose header was directed straight to the goalkeeper. 

A great save from the Dragonfly goalkeeper meanwhile, on 64 minutes, denied a sixth goal for the home side. A brilliant low through-ball set Harry Brown into space on the right wing whose shot, upon driving into the box, was creeping underneath the crossbar until the goalkeeper tipped the effort back into play off the face of the crossbar. 

Dragonfly however reduced the deficit to 5-3 on 66 minutes, Lee Lester picked up possession on the left-hand edge of the box before smashing home well into the bottom near corner, striking three times in as many clear cut chances. 

At the other end, Josh Allen picked up the loose ball from 18-yards out, but shot just over the crossbar on 72 minutes, while the visitors' left-back's long range free-kick towards goal was parried behind well by Ethan Doward - diving down to his far left-hand post, to concede the corner after 75 minutes. 

United however secured all three points with a smartly worked goal three minutes later, good pressure from Josh Allen charged down the goalkeeper's pass, with Harry Brown arriving down the right-hand side to intercept the pass and round the goalkeeper, appearing to just keep the ball in play in the process, before cutting it back to Allen to tap in from acres of space from point blank range, 6-3 United.

Dragonfly though saw a far post header cleared off the line, following a right wing corner, before the strike on the rebound was deflected behind for a corner.

Tom Halliday then received the only caution of the morning for a late sliding challenge on the visitors' left wing on 84 minutes, before the midfielder went close to putting his side further ahead in the 87th minute. A great left wing low corner from Brown found the number 8 arriving - following a clever near post ghosting run - but could only direct his stooping header just wide of the bottom near corner, while the Dragonfly keeper was on hand to deny a fierce United shot just seconds later. 

Another great save from the visiting team's goalkeeper thwarted United again on 89 minutes, Borown smartly latched onto a great long through-ball onto the right-hand side of the box, only to see his low shot across goal saved well by the 'keeper's right leg. 

Dragonfly broke up the other end, as the ful-back's right wing long throw fell to Dale Williams, whose great powerful strike from distance was tipped over the crossbar superbly by Doward on 90 minutes.

United went close again a minute later though, as Halliday and Yallop combined well to retain possession before the latter threaded a great defence splitting pass into the feet of Brown to latch onto and beat the advancing 'keeper to it, albeit his shot went agonisingly just past the unguarded bottom right-hand corner.

Marks meanwhile fired a free-kick just wide of the top right-hand corner for Dragonfly on 90+5 minutes, followed by a great save from the Dragonfly shot-stopper with the last action of the game a minute later. Yallop drove into space before slotting Allen into space, down the left-hand side of the box, whose great low strike across goal was beaten behind well by the keeper, with the final whistle following before the corner could be taken to draw a close to an entertaining encounter.

Moreton Hall Ferals open their Premier Logo Bury + District Sunday Football League Division One 2023-24 campaign with a 5-3 victory away at Bacton United 89. 

In a game that had everything, including 3 bookings, a sin bin and sending off all for the home side, Ferals started brightly, James Buckmaster's 30-yard free-kick was whipped smartly towards the top far left-hand corner, seemingly on target, as goalkeeper Barri Twinn leapt well to take the catch after 10 minutes. 

Callum Dongray, who started up front for Ferals, then threaded debutant Kieran Waller racing through past the defence, with just Twinn to beat, whose fierce shot towards the top near corner was tipped over well by the 'keeper guarding his near post in the 13th minute. 

Dongray himself then found space on the left-hand edge of the box to go for goal four minutes later, but again his fierce low strike was well held by Twinn down well to his bottom near corner. 

Ferals however, who struck three times in 13 minutes, broke the deadlock on 23 minutes, as Jake Peasgood curled a great strike from the right-hand edge of the box which goalkeeper Twinn was unable to parry over at the second attempt, 1-0 Ferals. 

Three minutes later it was 2-0 to the visitors, Fred Stewart-Hogg broke though smartly onto the right-hand byline whose low cross into the six yard box was partially cleared by the defender, only as far as Callum Dove who rifled a shot home via a deflection off the sliding defender into the bottom left-hand corner. 

Ferals meanwhile extended their lead further to 3-0 on 36 minutes, Callum Dongray exploited space well to drive through onto the right-hand byline before smashing a close range angled shot into the net off the inside of the far post. 

At the other end though, Bacton reduced the deficit on 41 minutes, Taylor Mortimer was fed into space unmarked on the right-hand side of the box to fire home smartly into the bottom far, left-hand, corner from close range, 3-1 to Ferals. 

While that was how the scoreline remained going into the interval, a good save from Twinn denied Ferals from restoring their 3 goal lead two minutes later. Goalscorers Jake Peasgood and Callum Dongray linked up well, leading to the former receiving the ball back in space on the right-hand side of the box whose tight angled shot was tipped over by Twinn guarding his near post. 

After the restart, Ferals again started brightly before Bacton reduced the deficit further to just one goal on two occassions, albeit Ferals responded once again to run out 5-3 winners with a 90+2nd minute free-kick. 

Callum Dongray meanwhile tested Twinn with the first major chance after the restart on 51 minutes. The forward, who then moved into midfield later in the half, upon breaking forward onto the right-hand side of the box tested Twinn with a fierce near post close range low strike, which the goalkeeper shovelled behind well for a corner. 

Dongray again tried his luck at goal on 54 minutes, albeit on that occasion his 30-yard fierce strike went just wide of the bottom far, left-hand, corner. 

At the other end, captain Reece Langridge headed over from close range at the far post, following a right wing corner on 55 minutes, while Bacton grabbed another goal back just two minutes later. Harley Jordan-Smith broke through one on one onto a through-ball past the defence before finishing smartly into the bottom left-hand corner, 3-2 to Ferals. 

Ferals looked to hit back though as Fred Stewart-Hogg released Kieran Waller into space on the left-hand side of the box whose shot past the onrushing goalkeeper went just over the crossbar on 59 minutes. 

Harry Sykes then broke free onto the left-hand side of the box for Bacton, two minutes later, the full-back then smartly cutback possession to Macauley Bell whose shot, from in space inside the area, was well blocked by captain Charlie Larter. 

Good goalkeeping from Casey Underwood meanwhile prevented a clear Bacton shot at goal on 65 minutes, as the Ferals goalkeeper advanced off his line well to slide out and gather a good through-ball into his box. 

Callum Dongray then went close to adding to his own and Ferals' tally for the afternoon in the 68th minute, as the goalscorer's ferocious low free-kick, right on the left-hand edge of the box, was thundered just wide of the bottom far corner, smacking the back stanchion. 

Good goalkeeping from Twinn again denied Ferals three minutes later, Fred Stewart-Hogg fed Jake Peasgood down the right wing, the winger then beat his man well before seeing his cross-shot at the bottom near corner was well held by the shot-stopper. 

Ferals were then awarded a penalty on 84 minutes as Charlie Glover raced through down the centre and between multiple bodies before being brought down by Reece Langridge who was dismissed for a straight red card, while Sam Reynolds was sin binned for dissent before Jake Peasgood, fresh back on the pitch, was able to take the spot kick after a two minute delay due to the infringements. 

After which though Peasgood duly sent Twinn the wrong way, as he slotted home his second goal of the game into the bottom right-hand corner, 4-2 Ferals. 

Straight from kick-off though, Josh Buckle instantaneously reduced the deficit to 4-3 on 87 minutes as Josh Buckle's shot from the half-way line crashed in off the crossbar. 

Ferals however wrapped up all three points in the second minute of stoppage time, Jake Peasgood completed his hat-trick with a fine low curling free-kick, on the left-hand edge of the box, into the bottom far corner, 5-3 Ferals. 

Ferals move into fourth in the early table, despite having played a game less than most of the teams. Bacton travel to Elmswell Athletic next week, while Ferals are next in action at Mellis on October 1st.

Moreton Hall Ferals open their 2023-24 campaign with a 3-0 win away to lower league Bury Titans to set up a home tie with Bury Town Bisons in the second round of the Snap On Tools Open Cup.

On the hottest day of the year, chances were at a premium, though it was Adrian Crowe's side who lead at the break after 3 goals in eight minutes towards the end of the first half. 

A good save from the Titans keeper denied Ferals from breaking the deadlock after 12 minutes, a neat one two between Fred Stewart-Hogg and Callum Dongray released the latter into space, one on one with the keeper from close range whose toepoked shot towards the top near corner was parried behind by the goalkeeper at his near post. 

Five minutes later, a great low Ferals' right wing byline cross saw a flick on saved by the diving keeper at his bottom near corner, while Fred Stewart-Hogg volleyed just over the top near corner from point blank range on 28 minutes.  

Ferals meanwhile broke the deadlock on 32 minutes as Jake Peasgood was fed free into space on the right-hand side of the box to finish smartly into the bottom far corner, 1-0 Ferals.

That was the start of a three goal quickfire spree within 8 minutes, as Ben Newdick and then Callum Dongray got on the scoresheet to all but wrap up Ferals' place in the second round with the second half still to play. A great defence splitting pass threaded Harry Whiting-Noakes through one on one with the keeper, driving most of the way through the hosts' half before releasing Ben Newdick into space unmarked on the left-hand side to slot into the gaping bottom near corner, 2-0 after 38 minutes.

Two minutes later, Dongray was on hand to smash home into the top left-hand corner after being threaded through at close range to swiftly make it 3-0.

Although that was the end of the scoring, James Buckmaster looked to pick out Ben Newdick with a clever right wing cross towards goal only for the goalkeeper to read it well on his line, diving down well to his left-hand side and beat it away.

Dongray a minute later then drew a good save out of the goalkeeper, the defender/forward found space to shoot from 40-yards out but his low shot was comfortably held by the shot-stopper at his bottom left-hand corner.

Ferals meanwhile made a change at the interval, George Talbot was rested with a game the following day with manager Adrian Crowe donning the gloves and goalkeeper Aston Fallows moving up front.

The second half was fairly uneventful, though both goalkeepers were forced into decent saves, with Crowe on hand to hold onto a left wing-edge free-kick at his near post on 48 minutes.

Debutant Jamie Daniel meanwhile saw a shot from the left-hand edge of the box saved well by the Titans' goalkeeper on 56 minutes, while the home side released 10 through with a defence splitting through-ball, a minute later, but the shot from 4-yards out was smacked wide into the near side-netting. 

Fred Stewart-Hogg then saw a looping shot from close range well held by the goalkeeper at his near near corner after 61 minutes, while Ben Newdick was adjudged to have been in an offside position as he put the ball in the net 3 minutes later. The goalscorer latched onto a low through-ball past the defence before netting into the open net, only to be ruled out by an offside flag. 

Jamie Daniel though forced a superb save out of the home goalkeeper on 73 minutes, the Ferals summer recruit found space to shoot on the left-hand side towards the bottom far corner but for an incredible recovery hand from the diving keeper to guide the ball behind for a corner.

Bury Town Bisons v Bury Bowl | 03.09.2023 | Premier Logos Bury District Sunday Football League Division Two

 Bury Town Bisons open the Premier Logos Bury District Sunday Football League Division Two season with a 3-2 win over Bury Bowl. 

Both teams exchanged quickfire goals apiece in the first half, with Bisons taking the lead both times on 2 and 21 minutes through Owen Walton-Ross, while Bowl equalised in the 3rd and 24th minute, courtesy of Brandon Salisbury, to ensure both teams were level at the break. The key breakthrough then arrived on 63 minutes for Bisons as Tommy Younge decided a closely fought game with a good low strike. 

As mentioned Bisons opened the scoring with the first action of the game as a right wing cross headed home by Owen Walton-Ross, 1-0 Bisons. 

Bowl meanwhile hit back instantly through Brandon Salisbury before Bisons' Joe Hogg saw a looping header towards the top left-hand, far, corner headed off the line on 14 minutes. 

Guy Bailey then tested Bisons keeper Jack Stone three minutes later, although his 35-yard shot was comfortably saved by Stone at his bottom near, right-hand, corner. 

Reece Newdick on the other hand saw a header from a right wing cross to the far post headed off the line on 20 minutes, while Owen Walton-Ross gave Bisons the lead once more a minute later, smashing home from the edge of the box, 2-1 Bisons. 

Again though Bowl replied quickly, equalising three minutes after falling behind as Brandon Salisbury notched a brace of his own after weaving into space on the edge of the box to slam home into the bottom left-hand corner, 2-2.

Harry Bentley meanwhile saw his 40-yard strike parried then caught well by Charlie Cope on 27 minutes, before Jack Stone denied Brandon Salisbury his hat-trick and giving Bowl the lead five minutes later. A great through-ball set Salisbury through one on one to round the onrushing Stone down the left-hand side though his tight angled shot was well held by the retreating goalkeeper. 

Bowl though did have the ball in the net just seconds later, but the player who poked home was offside as he broke through to poke home into the bottom right-hand corner. 

At the other end, a great long ball released Owen Walton-Ross one on one with Cope down the right-hand side of the box, but the forward shot just wide of the near post on 35 minutes. 

Stone then released Oli Selfe through on goal with Cope, six minutes later, but the striker's low 30-yard shot towards the bottom left-hand corner was beaten away well by the Bowl 'keeper.

Walton-Ross' left wing cross meanwhile wasn't capitalised on by the home side, although the loose ball fell to Selfe whose close range shot went narrowly wide of the bottom far, left-hand, corner on 43 minutes. 

Brandon Salisbury though almost gave Bowl the lead in the second minute of first half stoppage time, the forward was again set through one on one with Stone, but could only sidefoot a good curling strike just over the top right-hand corner, while Bowl shot just wide of the right-hand post two minutes later in the last action of the opening forty-five minutes.

Bowl started the second half brightly, having both of the first two early chances through Brandon Salisbury. The first saw the double goalscorer break through onto the left-hand side only to shoot just wide of the bottom far corner on 46 minutes, before seeing a cleft-hand 18-yard angled shot well blocked by the knees of Stone guarding his near post a minute later.

Bisons substitute Jack Wass then drove into space to shoot from 35-yards out, but shot just over the top right-hand, near, corner on 55 minutes, before Bowl saw a header at goal headed straight at Stone, who caught it comfortably two minutes later.

Bowl then tried their luck at goal from distance seconds later, but the shot was straight forward for Stone to deal with. 

Bisons' Tommy Younge then saw a shot towards the bottom right-hand, near, corner well held by Cope on 58 minutes, just five minutes before the substitute struck what proved to be the match-winner, smashing home underneath the goalkeeper into the bottom right-hand, near, corner, 3-2 Bisons. 

In response, Bowl shot just wide of the bottom left-hand, near, corner on 74 minutes, before Borrett's low fierce shot towards the bottom left-hand corner was well held by the diving Stone a minute later. 

Will Stobbart then saw a 35-yard fierce strike well held by Cope down well to his bottom left-hand corner on 81 minutes, followed by Bowl firing over in space inside the box eight minutes later and Bowl18 firing just over in the first minute of stoppage time.
