An entertaining encounter ends in a late 5-4 victory for Heybridge Swifts despite a good battling performance from Bury Town's U18 EJA side.
The visitors quickly raced into a two goal lead after 7 minutes, but the Blues got a foothold into the game and created some good chances. Henry Jolland went close for the home side, but fired his shot from 18-yards out a centimetre wide of the bottom left hand corner after 18 minutes.
The midfielder again went close to putting the Blues in front after 23 minutes, a good Bury free-kick from distance found Jolland free at the far post, although the midfielder sidefooted his first time shot wide of the top right hand corner.
After being teed up to shoot by Jolland, on the edge of the box, Harvey Lott forced the keeper to smother his low toepoked shot at goal fourteen minutes later, before the Blues halved the deficit with a good finish sixty seconds after. Henry Jolland latched onto a poor back pass inside the box to cooly finish home from close range into the bottom right hand near corner.
George Talbot meanwhile saw a good curling strike on the edge of the box well claimed by the 'keeper well positioned at his left-hand near post on 45 minutes, while a dangerous low Bury ball across towards the midfielder was vitally cleared by the Heybridge defence five minutes later.
After the break, the game sparked into life with both sides netting 3 goals each in an entertaining encounter.
Bury started the second half like the finished the first, though George Talbot's 25-yard strike was well held by the 'keeper at his right-hand near post in the 47th minute.
The Blues meanwhile had the ball in the net for the second time of the afternoon, only for the well taken goal to be chalked off by an offside flag three minutes later. Lott threaded the ball through past the defence to an offside blue shirt, he in turn teed up Alex Todd who smartly finished home first time into the bottom right hand corner from the edge of the box.
Heybridge on the other hand restored their 2 goal lead soon after, a right wing cross found Elongo inside the box whose smashed home on the volley into the middle of the net, 3-1.
Although the Blues had another goal, this time from Harvey Lott who took his finish well, disallowed in the 54th minute, the home side did make it 3-2 from the penalty spot after Teddy Hogg was fouled down the left-hand side of the box after 59 minutes. Up stepped Lott who fired home a good spot-kick down the middle, despite a touch of the diving goalkeeper.
Harvey Lott then turned provider two minutes later, this time teeing up Jolland down the left-hand side of the box, whose low shot was deflected behind the bottom near corner for a Bury corner.
Bury continued their momentum, duly levelling proceedings on 62 minutes courtesy of a audacious strike from Alex Todd. The Bury youngster smacked a cracking shot off the woodwork to make it 3-3.
Straight at the other end a minute later, Bury 'keeper Ollie Kellett-Green made a great save to keep the scores level, diving down well to his far right-hand corner to beat behind a fierce low shot across goal from outside the box.
The home shot-stopper again denied Heybridge with another great stop in the 69th minute, albeit offside anyway, the visitors broke through down the left hand side of the box only to be denied by the onrushing Kellett-Green.
Heybridge once more tested the Blues' stopper on 75 minutes, the away side broke into space down the left-hand side of the box but fired their strike straight at Kellett-Green's chest at his near post.
At this point the game was a thoroughly end to end affair, with the away side again breaking into the box dangerously five minutes later, however the Bury 'keeper was again hard to beat, smothering the low shot at his near post.
Kellett-Green's again held onto a close range shot fired strike at him on 86 minutes, while Bury took the lead for the first time in the game just two minutes later. A stunning goal it was too, Ethan Hynes was threaded through down the left-hand side of the box before cooly finishing into the bottom far corner, 4-3.
Hynes was then unfortunate to see his good curling, dangerously positioned, free-kick over the top far corner on 90+2 minutes, though Heybridge equalised four minutes later.
A right wing low ball into the box saw a low shot well saved by Kellett-Green, although the rebound was finished well by Elongo, low into the middle of the net, 4-4.
Heybridge edged the nine goal thriller in their favour deep into stoppage time, Rogers found space on the edge of the box to fire a good finish into the roof of the net, 4-5.
The Blues however still had a good opportunity to grab an equaliser after that, Teddy Hogg found space down the right hand side of the box only to agonisingly shoot straight at the keeper, who held onto it well.
The EJA side are again in home action next Sunday, when they entertain Chelmsford City, while the Blues' U18 Thurlow Nunn side host Saffron Walden Town Community at the Atalian Servest Ram Meadow Stadium on Monday night.
