Moreton Hall Ferals continue pre-season with a win at Great Barton with fitness the name of the game ahead of their league opener against Hardwick in two weeks time.
There was little between the two sides for the first hour, with both Great Barton and Ferals playing some good football.
Ferals though had the first chance of the morning in the third minute, a one-two between Callum Dove and Ben Newdick released the latter through inside the box but his shot from a tight angle at the top corner was parried away by the keeper at his near post.
Six minutes later, Dove himself tested the Great Barton defence as his low right wing cross needed diverting an inch wide for a corner by the home defender, from which George Crowe's corner flashed an inch over the Ferals' Trialist's head.
Ferals were then denied by a great save from the Great Barton goalkeeper on 13 minutes, Callum Dove got through free close to goal, but the Midfielder's low shot was smothered away by the goalkeeper. The away side then fired a dangerous strike across the face of goal two minutes later but was deflected just wide via the face of the far right-hand post by a defender as play was pulled back for Ferals' free-kick.
From Jake Peasgood's left wing resulting set piece, Callum Dongray's header across goal at the back post went narrowly wide of the far post. Ferals though broke the deadlock a minute later on 18 minutes as George Crowe's low right wing corner found Jake Peasgood, who peeled away cleverly past his defender to sneak past him at the near post and poke home from close range into the bottom far corner.
Shortly after the goal, Ferals went close again as Callum Dove through inside the box saw his shot well saved by the keeper just off his line, beating the shot behind for a corner at his near post.
George Crowe then whistled a dangerous right wing cross an inch wide of the top left-hand corner on 25 minutes, before Great Barton restored parity two minutes later, the visitors' number 11 through inside the box fired a great finish past Aston Fallows into the bottom right-hand corner.
Ferals' new signing Lewis Kemp then picked out Fred Stewart-Hogg a yard ahead of the near post with a low cross, but the latter slotted wide of the target on 28 minutes. Another new Ferals new summer recruit Harry Whiting-Noakes saw his shot from just outside the box deflected an inch wide of the bottom corner for a Ferals corner after 32 minutes.
Two minutes later, George Crowe picked out Callum Dongray from close range from a corner, but the latter's header was well cleared off the line, before the away side then fired an inch wide of the bottom corner on 35 minutes.
Jake Peasgood then saw a dangerous on target free-kick, from just outside the box, vitally deflected narrowly behind for a corner two minutes later, whilst Callum Dove headed narrowly wide from a dangerous George Crowe corner in the 38th minute.
Callum Dongray meanwhile saw a dangerous 20-yard free-kick deflected narrowly wide for a corner three minutes before the break, whilst Fred Stewart-Hogg's close range free header from another dangerous George Crowe corner needed clearing off the line twice a minute later.
A minute before the interval, Callum Dove then saw a shot well blocked inside the box as the rebound fell back to the attacker, who teed up Jake Peasgood who saw his fierce strike at the top corner tipped onto the face off the woodwork.
Ferals however regained the lead on the stroke of half time as Jake Peasgood fed Ben Newdick down the right wing who then smashed home a cross-turned-shot home off the inside of the bottom left-hand post into the left-hand corner.
Into the second half, Great Barton restricted the Ferals to just 2 goals until just before the hour mark, with the eventual final score arguably harsh on the lower league side who didn't really put a foot wrong in the game.
Ferals had the first chance after the break just four minutes after the restart, Jake Peasgood picked the pocket of the defender down the right-hand side before laying off possession to Harry Whiting-Noakes just outside the six yard box, where the onrushing Midfielder's first time shot was well smothered by the diving goalkeeper in a great save.
Two minutes later however, left-back George Crowe, who took Aston Fallows' place in goal for the second half, having previously been a goalkeeper at youth level - the last time being 11 years ago - denied Great Barton from restoring parity once more. The hosts drove down the right wing forcing Crowe to make a good save as he tipped the ball over the crossbar.
Ferals on the other hand extended their lead to 3-1 on 58 minutes after a deflection on Jake Peasgood's squared ball to Callum Dove fell to the Ferals number 11, Dove expertly guided the ball home first time from close range into the bottom left-hand corner.
Great Barton however went an inch away from reducing the deficit back to 1 goal three minutes later, firing just over having ran onto a cutback, whilst at the other end Ferals' Ben Newdick saw his fierce cross/shot was caught by the goalkeeper.
Ferals then had two really good chances within seconds as they went agonisingly close in the 65th minute. Callum Dove threaded through on goal inside the box, the goalscorer then round the goalkeeper before cutting back to Trialist wearing 6 who then weaved through before seeing his powerful strike deflected wide by the defender for a corner.
Jake Peasgood's set-piece found Callum Dongray free at the back post, but the latter headed just an inch wide of the top corner.
At the other end, the woodwork denied Great Barton from reducing the deficit to 3-2, as the home man's backheel with their back to goal came back into play off the inside of the post on 67 minutes.
Two minutes later meanwhile, the home side then thundered a strike just over via the top off the crossbar whilst Ferals added a fourth on 74 minutes.
Harry Whiting-Noakes curled in a sumptuous cross into Callum Dove a yard out to guide home a simple side-footed half-volley into the near corner, 4-1. That goal was closely followed by a Ferals' fifth on 76 minutes, coming a minute after Callum Dongray had a ferocious strike deflected narrowly over the crossbar for a corner.
Jake Peasgood's right wing corner was pinpoint to Trialist whose great header flew into the roof off the net from close range, 5-1.
With twelve minutes left on the clock, Harry Whiting-Noakes was then denied by a good save by the Great Barton goalkeeper, the midfielder's curling a low shot towards goal from just outside the box forced the goalkeeper to smother down at his near post.
Callum Dove meanwhile then threaded through Callum Dongray free inside the box, but the goalkeeper came off his line well to make a good save to put it behind the bottom corner for a Ferals corner on 80 minutes.
Two minutes later, the scoring was rounded off with the final action of note for the morning, Callum Dove fed Harry Whiting-Noakes free inside the box, where the latter capped off a good personal performance by firing home a half-volley into the bottom near corner at the near post.
