Needham Market exit the FA Youth Cup at the first hurdle as all five goals scored on the night fell in the first half as AFC Sudbury progress to face Histon at home.
Arguably it couldn't have got off to a worse start for the young Marketmen as Sudbury quickly won possession from the kickoff as Jaden Coden thundered home a fierce strike, from just outside the box, off the underside of the crossbar and into the near top right-hand corner to give his side a ten second lead.
Cohen then doubled the visitors advantage ten minutes later, as the goalscorer rounded the home goalkeeper before slotting home into vacant bottom near left-hand corner to make it 2-0.
Unfortunately for the home side, it was 3-0 in the 19th minute as Cam Strachan added to the visitors' lead by smashing a low strike home past Johnson and into the far corner.
However, Needham refused to roll over as Archie Shelley headed narrowly over from close range following a dangerous corner on 25 minutes, whilst a dangerous long ball towards Smalls forced Sudbury goalkeeper Dunne off his line to clear it away for a throw in a minute later. After which, Taylor Clark weaved through into the box and held the ball up well only to see his shot on the turn well blocked.
Clark however then saw, another good strike well blocked on 28 minutes, before the young Marketmen reduced the deficit on the half-hour mark as Charlie Warren got a deft flick on nestled into the bottom far corner from an exquisite Magic Smalls left wing free-kick, 1-3.
Three minutes later, Dimitri Gayle then picked out Taylor Clark inside the box, but unfortunately for the young forward his touch fell to a defender.
It was Sudbury however who got the crucial fifth goal of the encounter as Matt Price got through inside the box before curling his low shot around Johnson and in off the far post, 1-4 Sudbury.
In first half stoppage time, Needham looked to reduce the deficit back to two as a dangerous free-kick just outside the box fell to Magic Smalls, whose powerful strike was blocked, whilst Hugh Cullum then threaded Smalls through dangerously one on one with Dunne, but the goalkeeper was first to it.
For all the chances in the second half, the scoreline remained at 1-4 at the full-time whistle, which although there were plenty of chances the first half goals seemed to had taken the sting out off the cup tie.
Despite that though, just six minutes after the restart the home side fired a great strike just over from just outside the box, whilst Flynn Crosthwaite's volley back across from Magic Smalls' corner found Archie Exworth free onside, but the latter's header was straight at Dunne's midrift.
A great save from Ewan Johnson from point blank range denied Sudbury from extending their lead further on 55 minutes, whilst the resulting set-piece was headed back across dangerously by Price where his teammate headed narrowly over from close range.
Nine minutes later though, Archie Exworth was threaded through in space from 30-yards out where the Midfielder flashed a dangerous cross-shot across the face of goal which went just wide of the far post with nobody around to guide it goal wards.
With just seven minutes remaining of the cup tie, Sudbury went close to adding a fifth goal, curling a dangerously positioned free-kick an inch over the top right-hand corner. Whilst at the other end, the visiting defence needed to be alert to deal with an exquisite low ball into the box from Clayton Osborn.
The last chance of the game once again fell to the home side, as Archie Simpson's free header from Clayton Osborn's Cross went narrowly over the crossbar.
Ultimately there's positives for the young Marketmen to take from this cup tie, as they move onto an away league clash against Hadleigh United at Millfields on Thursday 9th September.
